I played Virtual Hydlide up to where you beat the Vampire. Seriously, I don't think this game is all THAT bad. Its combat system is a bit simplistic (walk up to an enemy, swing your sword at it), and the graphics are really rough around the edges (they used sprites, but it's 3D, so everything's blocky and pixelated and looks like it's moving around as you rotate the camera), but it's certainly playable, and it doesn't feel like it's deserving of a 1 or 0 score. Walking around the overworld is reminiscent of Drakkhen. If you chose the "easy" difficulty setting, your goal is marked on the map and you simply walk to it and when you get there, you discover what it is. The first goal was to find a crucifix in a graveyard (the goals of this game seem to have been lifted directly from the NES Hydlide game). But there was a lot of other items and gold to discover while exploring the graveyard, too.

This game also has one of the most unintentionally hilarious opening sequences I've seen. They basically ripped off the intro to Super Ghouls n Ghosts. We see a princess (played by a real person) running around inside a castle. Then a really cheesy looking demon rises up from behind the castle and destroys it, grabs the princess, and disappears.
