Something about these episodes feels unsatisfying. I think part of it is that there aren't enough good characters to relate to. I like Wreck-Gar and Ultra Magnus, but that's about it. I also think it's kind of funny that Season 3 is considered more "mature" than Seasons 1 and 2, because I actually think the writing is less mature. For example, compare the episode Season 3 episode "Chaos" to the Season 2 episode "Kremzeek". In "Chaos", they have to destroy a monster called "Chaos" because the Decepticons are harvesting crystals that the monster produces to make highly-destructive weapons. But Chaos is sort of an innocent animal, yet the story makes him out to be a "monster", so it's "okay" when he's destroyed. The "Kremzeek" episode at least had the sophistication to face the fact that Kremzeek wasn't really evil, but had to be destroyed because he was such a menace, and deal with it. The "Chaos" episode did not have the courage to do that.

And "Madman's Paradise", a Season 3 episode where some of the Transformers are sent to a medieval kingdom, had nowhere near the level of quality that the Season 2 ep, "A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court", in which TFs were also transported to a medieval kingdom, had. "Madman's Paradise" is mostly about a bunch of no-name people fighting a battle at a castle, but almost all the minor characters in "Decepticon Raider" were established and it had interesting plot twists, like showing how the Decepticons were resourceful in making weapons and getting energy in a time period without electricity.

The only thing that qualifies Season 3 as being "more mature" (so far) is that there are less jokes and more fighting. I really am beginning to think that many people think that "more violence" = "mature".
