I agree that Conker's was a great game for the N-64. In fact, a masterpiece. (Bond was better, though.) But, Conker pulled off something that most other games crash and burn at trying, multiple interfaces. Adventure, action, racing, fighting, FPS, etc. The game flows together really well and keeps things varied, but tries not to linger on and on too long on any one idea. Granted, it's a comedy that I rarely laughed at. But, it's British comedy.

Want to sample a bad game that tried to be too much? NES's Adventures of Bayou Billy. (SP?)

As for the vampire bat mission, it happens in threes. (There's a whole lot of things that happen in threes in this game.) Problem is, not every one of the villagers you drag in do the trick. There is some sort of trick to locating the correct villagers. And, I am convinced that it requires visiting different sections of the castle for each victom.

Last time I played through, the poor, remaining villagers were jumping into a death pit to get away from the swarms of zombies.
