Well, you just beat Virtual Hydlide, and you had some thoughts on the Transformers episode Starscream's Ghost. I figured you could post about that.

There's not much to say about beating Virtual Hydlide. At least it had more than a blank screen that said "Congratulations!" (or was it "The End"?) for an ending. Basically, all the boss fights in VH were "battles of attrition", but I can't figure out how else you'd make a boss fight with the limited maneuverability you have in that game. The game is also far too short and simplistic to be deserving of a high score.

As for "Starscream's Ghost"...I don't think most of my thoughts on that are very "postable". That episode frustrated me more than any other because I actually LIKED it until it started degrading into undecipherable nonsense. I really liked the interaction between Octane and Sandstorm (FINALLY, characters with some personality!), and I thought it was going somewhere with that, but it's as though the episode got rewritten 3/4 of the way through to make way for the return of Starscream. I have nothing against the return of Starscream (lord knows this show needs something), but it didn't need to happen in this episode. I would have rather the story expanded on Octane and Sandstorm's relationship. Why do they act like they've known each other for awhile? Were they friends before the war? If so, what made them go their separate ways? Would Octane truly be willing to give up being a Decepticon, even if Galvatron changed his mind about wanting to kill him? Why did Octane really want to usurp Galvatron in the first place? There are so many angles this episode could've approached, but instead, it ends in a sequence of confusing action scenes that didn't seem to make any sense to me. I couldn't explain what happens if I wanted to. And Octane's fate is left unresolved in the end.

This episode also proves to me, once and for all, that nothing in Season 3 really makes any sense. Why? Because Octane references Dirge's tomb in the Decepticon Crypt, but Dirge is alive and well in earlier Season 3 episodes! And this time, you can't use the excuse that his appearance in those episodes was a mistake, caused by an animator simply drawing the wrong character (a la Brawn and Huffer in "Carnage in C Minor"), because he HAD SPEAKING LINES!! And he talked in Bud Davis's voice, exactly the same way he talked in Season 2!!

I just hope Season 2, part 2 is better....I remember Wreck-Gar making me LOL a few times in "The Return of Optimus Prime", so at least that's one positive thing to look forward to. I also want to get the first season DVD of Beast Wars, but I don't know if I should order it from Amazon or check some other video stores for it first. I know the place we usually get our movies from doesn't have it.
