I played some more R-Type Final tonight, on Bydo difficulty.

I previously said that now that I know what to do against the stage 4 boss, I expect it to be easier from now on. Indeed, the first time I made it to its second form, I beat it.

Stage 5 didn't seem that difficult. I could have sworn this stage had a miniboss (the return of that mech with the huge gun that had appearances in stage 1 and 3), but I didn't fight it this time. Maybe there's some way of skipping it?

With the exception of the boss, I liked stage 6 on this difficulty. I may have complained about the graphics in this game before, but this stage seems to be more atmospheric than most in the game. It's the ruins of a base that seems to be amidst either a planet's rings, or an asteroid belt. Far off the in distance, beyond the field of play, is an orange planet.

As I've said before, this stage has a part that seems like it's supposed to be a homage to stage 7 from the original R-Type. Even on Bydo, this stage is still easier in Final, though.

The thing that annoys me about the boss of this stage (which is where I am now) (and I'm not sure if I've mentioned this before) is that the stage between the check point and when the boss fight actually starts lasts forever and there's not much to it. It might even be worse to have to go through this every time I need to rechallenge the boss than it is to sit through the little forced cinema that precedes the stage 4 boss (which can also become annoying).
