As for my own game progress, believe it or not, but I was still able to refine my strategy for Dracula when I recently played through Castlevania! What I used to do (simply) was, get the holy water and just save it. I'd attack the first form of Dracula, and, if need be, destroy the fireballs with the whip. Then, I'd use holy water and the whip on the second form.

The problem with this is that I relied on the second form throwing fireballs at me, at the precise time having my holy water hit them and destroy them, and having a double or triple shot left over. With the double shot and holy water, victory is virtually assured.

I never got the double shot before the second form, because attacking Dracula's fireballs with holy water seemed unreliable.

I refined my strategy so that most of the time, I still just use the whip to destroy the fireballs. However, if Dracula ever appears very far from me, I'll use holy water to destroy them. The weapon is reliable under those circumstances. Well, I usually have to jump after throwing the weapon, and it often misses one or two fireballs, but the weapon and the jump in combination seems to work.
