I "beat" Rebel Strike. By which I mean, I saw the game's ending credits; there still are a couple of remaining missions. It does seem like it was over kind of quickly... (Bear in mind I haven't played at all the last couple of days).

The mission that shows the credits is Triumph of the Rebellion. It's based on the part in the movie where Chewie gets an AT ST on the moon of Endor. The hardest part of that mission, for me, was just staying on track. A couple of times, I inadvertently walked into a thick part of the woods and couldn't get back out again (and subsequently lost the mission, as it's timed). After you guide the AT ST to the bunker, you play as Han and have to set bombs and then escape the bunker. I beat this part on my second try. So it was a rather anticlimactic end. You don't get to destroy the Death Star; it's shown blowing up in the ending cinemas (which are taken from the ending of Return of the Jedi). FO thought it was weird that you didn't get to blow up the Death Star yourself, but I imagine that you probably did that in some other game.

I'd say the fundamental critical issue of this game (or a possible thesis statement for a review) would be, Aside from their relations to the movies, there is no organizing principle to the missions. It's no surprise that there will be some disjointedness between a mission where you fly an X-Wing, to one where you trudge around in an AT ST, to one where you're running and gunning on foot. But I'm not just talking about diversity; the missions aren't even really organized to give a difficulty curve. Levels are by turns easy and hard with no pattern or progression.

I use the word "hard" relatively. The game's challenge level, for the most part, sort of reminds me of Life Force's challenge: Something might seem hard at first, but with a little effort the challenge evaporates. And I don't think the game taught me very much: Even though I was able to "beat" the game, I still don't feel like an expert X-Wing fighter. Being an expert is not a requisite for success.
