Yesterday, my brother was over, and the three of us (FO, too) played some games together. We all played Mario Kart 64 and Star Fox 64. SF64 is supposed to suck as a multiplayer game. Well, I don't think anyone would ever plan on getting together just to play that game, but it's not too awful to have a single impromptu group game. The biggest problem is that there's no draw distance at all. The only way I could see anyone was with the radar. Also, I think there's only two multiplayer arenas...

Then my brother and I played a little Goldeneye by ourselves.

Tonight, I tried some Soul Calibur 2. I was curious to see if I could unlock a demonstration (like what was in Soul Calibur 1) with just a little bit of play. I didn't.

Anyway.... My first impression of this game isn't very positive.

I know I said of SC1 that I didn't think that game's graphics would age very well, and then changed my mind. But I'm going out on a limb and saying the same thing for SC2. There's a lot of detail, but nothing really impresses me much. I thought the SC1 opening video was much better, and I liked how they used it to show off the game's graphics engine (SC2's is FMV).

I also don't know if I like the character designs much. And Ivy's alternate outfit makes her look like George Washington. WTF?

I haven't heard any songs that caught my ear.

CB007 complained about the dungeons in this game. I think I found out what he means. The first dungeon I went through wasn't so bad. It was just a few different fights.

The second one, though, was 20 fights in a row, all against the same enemy! Argh! Who, I'd like to know, thought that was a good idea?! That was almost terrible.

In a dungeon, the fights are all represented by blocks on a grid, and after you unlock so many fights, it starts to look like a map or a maze. I ended up fighting every block in the dungeon. You might think that I should avoid doing that to keep the game from being too repetitive, but you can't really do that, because some normal blocks (as opposed to the boss block/battle) unlock things when you win, too, and there's no way of knowing if that'll happen until you actually fight and win.

I went back to KOTOR after that.

Oh, one other SC2 complaint... They went with English voices for this game, and they seem pretty bad to me. Plus, the dialogue itself is very cheesy. So are the new battle/arena introductions. One is "A hero seeks a sword. A sword seeks truth!" That's just nonsense.
