Donnie Darko again.

I could almost spin this into its own topic, but...

There are some movies that I just get no sense of from reviews, and Donnie Darko is one of them. I've read several reviews of the movie (from probably at least 5 different critics, including both of Ebert's), and I just don't get what it's supposed to be about. I mean, I know about the plot, that a jet engine crashes into his bedroom, and there's a weird rabbit creature from the future, but I don't get a sense of what the point is supposed to be. (On the other hand, one of those at least 5 reviews said there was no point)

Another movie I didn't get anything from reviews about was A Knight's Tale. Again, I know that it's a movie about jousting and crap, but it uses a modern soundtrack. But, again, so what? It probaby didn't help that Rolling Stone's review was so short, it said almost nothing but that it was a movie with smarts. I wish it said what the "smarts" were.

I doubt I'll ever watch A Knight's Tale (I have a feeling I'll find it pointless), but I might watch Donnie Darko some time to see how the reviews and the actual movie compare.
