You're not missing a lot, Crawl. It feels like somebody attempted to put SotN on the GBA, but had to remove most of its meat to get it there.

This game is also one of many reasons why I no longer pay attention the reviews at VGF. They not only gave HoD a high score (though the reviewer said he never played SotN. Go figure), they gave it a higher one than CotM.

I bought HoD shortly after it came out. When we came out of the Wal-Mart I got it from, we found out my mom locked her keys in the car. I was reading the manual while we waited for my brother to bring our spare keys.

And unless this game has an upside down castle (which I seriously hope it doesn't. I will weep if it does), my original file actually had 85% of the castle, so I was near the end of it. The clock is at five hours. THAT'S how bad I was at it.

I found a brand new CotM well after is discontinuation at Hasting's. They often have some out-of-print stuff. I found the GBA Earthworm Jim (which kind of sucks, but is nowhere near as bad as the Game Boy version) there about a year ago, so it was well after it was discontinued. They also had ChuChu Rocket, but wanted $40 for it. I found that at RePlay Games (their going out of business still makes me sad) for $14.
