I played a little bit of Super Mario World today, up to the Green Switch Palace. After Mario 3, it's really hard to get into this one, but I think I'll try to make some more progress tomorrow.

Flying in this game is problematic compared to Mario 3. With no time limit, and the ease of actually getting the cape powerup, it's possible far too often to be able to skip an entire stage by going right over it. I had to make a real effort today to not do that. I know it was technically possible in Mario 3 at times, but the unlimited flying powerup was pretty uncommon.

This game has a lot more extra stuff to do than earlier SMB games... revisiting levels later on, and looking for secret exits is a pretty common thing. I don't know, I think I might prefer a more linear experience. Maybe it's just because I remember how everything is done and it's not exciting now.

Fighting the Koopa kids in the castles isn't nearly as fun as going through the auto-scrolling airships, IMO.
