I plan to play exactly one hour of Might and Magic tonight, no more, no less.

I now don't think I'll be able to beat the North Barrier in one try at ths point even if I avoid poison. One of the later monster parties is composed of enemies with over 50 hp each.

I have no idea how being poisoned really works. (I also somehow misplaced the manual..) Most of the time it seems to prevent healing, but I've healed characters who were poisoned before. Then with no further status changes to that character, I sometimes am no longer able to heal them. And there were times when it seemed they lost health just by moving around, but lately I can almost definitely say it hasn't been happening.

I came up with the hypothesis that they might lose health for certain actions, and maybe healing a poison character causes them to lose an amount of health, and if those two are equal there's no net change. That's probably not right, since it's a rather off the wall explaination.
