I don't think Super Mario World is anywhere near the same league as Super Mario Bros. 3.

As a kid, I would have disagreed with you, I think, and said they were both challenging games and both a lot of fun. But I have gotten a little better at games over the years... despite playing mostly easy RPG's.

I'm probably not half as skilled as Crawl, but this experience was too simple for me to ever want to repeat it again. This is surely the last time I ever play Mario World.

But is easiness the only factor? Why I would still enjoy SMB2 when I don't like the early parts of SMB3 or any of Mario World anymore?

All I can come up with is that there's just more to do at any one time in SMB2... so you don't feel like you're running from the beginning of an easy stage to the end. Not only do the characters control differently, but you're encouraged to explore a bit to find health increases and coins for the end of level game. Stages are often a bit nonlinear compared to the traditional SMB games, too. It's not always start at the left part of the stage, exit on the right.

And also the fact that it doesn't FEEL like a Mario game, so you're less likely to be comparing the experience to SMB1 or SMB3, they way I do when I play Mario World.

I wonder if I should consider playing around with Mario World 2 sometime soon.

Ah, that reminds me. If Super Mario World was called Super Mario Bros. 4 in Japan, what was Mario World 2 called there?
