I was going to work on those last levels in Super Mario World, but decided to play Doom 3 for an hour instead.

It's been pretty exciting. There is a part at the beginning where you have to sit through some dialogue and basic information. But within 20 minutes, faster if you hurry, you're playing for real.

The game areas are very dark, and can get kind of creepy at times. You never know when some horrible looking thing is going to attack you, because of the limited visibility. If you use the flashlight to look around in more detail, it'll take a while to switch back to a weapon if you're attacked. It seems kind of silly that you couldn't do both at the same time, but it's not bad from a gameplay perspective.

Ammo seems to be a little limited so far, but I'm not sure if that'll be an ongoing issue or not.

Graphics are pretty amazing. Everything you look at seems so highly detailed... and human/monster faces are some of the most realistic I've seen in a game. Surprisingly, no slowdown so far and fast load times. I know a big deal was made about how you need a very powerful PC to run that version smoothly. So I'm surprised there aren't more issues.

You can quicksave at any time... and it really is quick. I'm playing on Normal difficulty, BTW.

So... I think one of the main complaints I've heard is that the gameplay doesn't get much more complex than this, and that because it's not a short game, things are a little tedious. Good first impression, though.
