Yeah. Sounds like you don't have a strong enough sword.

Another thing that's great about Eternal Darkness is now I like to think those Cambodian villagers in the end of Apocalypse Now are sacrificing that cow to Mantorok.

I'm probably going to play Resident Evil 0 next on Gamecube. For some reason, I'm just into survival horror games right now.

Oh, and for those who may have been wondering: I do think I liked Eternal Darkness more than Crawl did. I agree with him that the En'gha City area was tedious, but I liked everything else, more for the puzzles and atmosphere aspect than the combat, but I did think the Black Guardian was a good (but not great) boss fight. The story was interesting, although I do think it suffers from weak dialogue and a confusing script in some places. Voice acting was pretty good. I especially liked Richard Doyle as Pious and Ulyaoth, even though I'd never heard of him before this game. But William Hootkins ranting in Maximillian's journals was unintentionally hilarious (it reminded me of the voice acting in Alone in the Dark 2, which was also unintentionally funny).

The puzzles were good enough to stump me a few times, although I don't think anything stumped me as badly as some of the hardest puzzles in Indiana Jones 64 did (but at least it didn't have a ton of annoying glitches). Like Indy, ED is another game that feels like "a better version" of Shadowgate 64.
