About 2 hours into God of War now.

The last few minutes were like...

"No, stay away from me, get back!"

*She Falls*

Oh, something shiny.
Oh, a save point.

*saves*

It's pretty fun overall, not a 9.5/10 or anything even close to that, but amusing. I don't know what to think when I see stuff like "God of War, best game ever made by far!!!"

I know I was having more fun with the simple Darkwatch with this much time in.

I'm not sure exactly why, but this reminds me of Prince of Persia more than any other game I've played recently. There are a lot of puzzles, but the combat is definitely the focus here... far more numerous and complex battles than in that game. But it still has a similar feel at times. Not sure who made each game, so...

Anyway, I'll just comment on a few things that have happened.

Fighting the Medusa for the first time... I found it pretty tricky at first. Getting turned to stone wasn't really a problem. I was able to break out of that and get out of the way pretty much every time. I just seemed to be taking a lot of minor hits that added up. I ended up running low on health, then getting the chest of green orbs in that room to restore it. Once the Medusas became normal enemies, I quickly figured out that I just wasn't using enough attacks. I like the "turn enemies to stone and shatter them" power.

There was a puzzle that was memorable, if very obvious, where you have a big switch in the middle of a room that opens the way to progress. But it only works while you're standing on it. And there are constantly regenerating enemies in this room that look like they're heavy enough to hold down the switch. Yeah. You need to lure them over there, then use the Medusa power on them.

There was a point in Athens where you have to fight these two big enemy guys while random people are running around in terror. You can kill these people to restore your health (Kratos is such a nice guy) but they caused me problems during the battle, too. After dealing a lot of damage, the prompt would come up to press the Circle button to do a special attack. But it seemed like every time I pressed it, I ended up killing some random townsperson instead of whatever I was supposed to do to the enemy.

Some things I find boring in this game, like climbing something while repelling enemies, pulling yourself from one bulding to another on a rope while repelling enemies, etc., etc.

Even though I haven't run into any real trouble spots, I'm glad I decided to play on normal. This is the kind of game where, if I owned it, I would play on the higher difficulty the next time through and see how it went. I have to ease myself into these things because I'm so easily frustrated by difficulty. Especially if I'm still learning a game and don't necessarily know WHY I'm having trouble.

The graphics are still excellent. Interesting to see how much games on a system can progress visually from the launch to the end of it's run.

Can't forget, I've been doing other things, too. I've watched the commentaries for 3 out of 4 of the Futurama discs I rented. With one exception, I haven't watched any of the actual episodes... it's worth every penny for the commentary alone. Any Futurama fans should definitely check out these sets.
