This type of thing annoys me.
The kid himself is annoying enough. What's even more annoying are people who go on and on about how this child is a prodigy and amazing and yadda yadda. I quote, "We've all seen child prodigies on television chat shows before, but none quite like Ethan Bortnick. I was quickly won over by this six-year-old cutie when he appeared on The Tonight Show by Jay Leno." Yeah, yeah, cry me a river.
There are three main reasons this annoys me:
1. As I already said, the kid is just annoying. Maybe it's impressive that he's memorized some songs and can play them on piano, but is it really all that entertaining? Would you even care at all about what he's doing if this was an adult?
2. This type of thing says more about the parents than the kid. I'm sure there are plenty of kids in the world who could do the same thing if they had parents that were willing to get them to that point.
3. He's not even really that great. He only plays short segments of songs, and those segments are the most recognizable parts of those songs. He also clearly makes mistakes. And the song he composed himself didn't seem too good to me. (Part of it sounds like another song to me, though what song is not coming to mind right now.)
I've heard that some people commented that Jay Leno looked bored in that video. The video quality isn't really good enough for me to make out his facial expressions, though. He does keep looking over at the band and fidgeting, but I don't watch the show enough to know if that's typically the way you can tell Leno is bored, or if it's just how he normally is.

Got Shnoo?
