Why do Kevin and Mask De Smith start out asleep? It'd make sense if you had to do something special to unlock them, but instead you go up to a TV, select
either of them them, select "Wake Up", and boom, you can use them and it doesn't even cost any blood or anything.

I've never been able to figure that out either except that the game might make the suggested (or required) characters be awake and leave the others asleep.

I haven't played a whole lot lately, but I just reached level 18 in Lord of the Rings. I've been taking on some more challenging quests and I've
died or come close to it several times recently. Death (technically retreat in terms of storyline) really just hurts you financially by causing heavy damage to
your equipment, making you pay a lot more than normal to repair it. I've got about 800 gold and I'm still looking forward to getting to use heavy armor
at level 20.
I'm going to play some more FF7 but it looks like I won't be finishing it by Christmas at this rate and I assume that I could easily get sidetracked by the new stuff I get. Hopefully I'll get back to it before too long. Edit: I just finished Cloud's flashback sequence in Kalm (I enjoy these parts) and made it to the swamp where the Midgar Zolom is. I have to raise enough money to buy the Chocobo Lure materia.

Well, I beat the easy mode of ActRaiser 2 and didn't get much of an ending. Whose idea was it to make you refight all the Level 2 bosses at the end of the
game? Okay maybe it was the same guy who made you do that in the first one, but didn't he realize the bosses in this game are like 90 times harder and you
don't have the Stardust spell anymore?

I beat the first level of Killer7, and started the second. I beat that angel boss with Keane and her sniping ability. There was also the most pointless fork,
where you could go left or right but they both led to the same corridor, unless only going right makes that ghost that spoils the boss to you appear. Of
course, you're still given a big close up of her weak point after you blow her wings off.
What is up with the dialogue in this game? Servants: May we help you? Mask De Smith: Yeah, where's Fukushima? Servants: What is your business with him? MDS: I'm here to kill him! Servants: Of course. Would anybody actually bust into a restaurant and say "I'm here to kill the boss!" And I tried to awaken the sleeping personalities, but it says I have to kill nine more enemies before I can. Still doesn't explain why they're asleep at all. |

I've never played the game, but from all the video's I've seen.....the dialog is nothing short of genius~!

Yeah, I think I've mentioned before how goofy that game's dialogue is. I can't remember any of the examples of it's finer moments off the top of my head except for that guy in the desert who says, "We don't get many....BLACKS...around these parts." I think there might also be a post somewhere on this forum where I said something about how I wondered if it was supposed to be intentionally cheesey and goofy but gamers, being what they are, misunderstood it.

I particularalee like the "Ha, Lucha-libre is for kids! Chidren are pure, they knows whos the strongest" conversation. The fact it makes no sense
makes me like it more.

I think what it means is that the chef/spy is insulting Mask's wrestling style by saying it's for kids, but Mask's reply is that if it was fake,
children would see right through it.

So, I've got two dead-ends. One takes me to some kind of glass tree, and something behind it blinks red when I scan it. The other a door with some kind
of C-shaped lock or something. Maybe it's an alarm bell, and this game's graphic style makes the bell and its setting blend into one another. I
wonder if that guy with the Invisibility stat comes in here.

I didn't figure out that "glass tree" the first time I played through the game. That restaurant area is so huge, I thought I could come back to
it later but got lost and ended up at the end of the stage before I found my way back to it.

Okay, that door was part of a puzzle I didn't finish because I thought it had something to do with the glass tree.
I also tried out Zelda Outlands, and I cannot for the life of me figure out the first dungeon. I've bombed every wall (unless this game has doors that aren't in the middle of the walls), and cannot find the path to the stepladder or another key so that I can get into the boss room. |

I beat the World's Stupidest Boss... okay, maybe not quite, but she was still pretty ridiculous. You're on a burning bridge with this woman, and you
just stand there shooting each other for a minute, the hits are tallied, and whoever got more hits on the other one wins. The only reason I lost the first time
is because I went in with Mask De Smith, and he has to reload after every shot. I went back with Dan and got in about 50 shots versus her 20-something.
Then I piddled through most of the second part of Level 2. Fought some sushi chef dressed up like Solid Snake, and had the conversation about fake wrestling Tweeter mentioned. I saved and quit after some ghost said something about "smashing the old man's brains in". Half the puzzles in this game amount to "Look at a poster, incription, or some other writing, memorize the information on it or write it down if you need to, then go back and find the spot where you regurgitate that information." |

I got Arkanoid: Doh it Again in the mail yesterday, and decided to try it out... and I already "beat" it. I got an ending, but now I'm in some
more levels and I probably have 66 more levels to go.

So how is Melvin coming along? Still looks like a generic low class soldier?I think his name is Melred. I'd probably like to change it to something else but I don't even know what. I'm too impatient to think of a good name when I want to jump in and start playing. Looks about the same as here. I think I bought new shoulder guards since then. I've pretty much got the best medium armor available at my level without spending an absolute fortune for stuff with slightly better stats here and there. The heavy armor should mark the first big visual change in a while, for better or for worse. |

So I watched Muppet Christmas Carol for the first time in a couple of years. Been kind of a tradition except that I missed seeing it for 2006. I ended up
buying the digital version since I didn't see it in the TV listings and there wasn't time to find a DVD of it by Christmas. I still really like it.
I'm a little embarrassed to admit that I've never read the original story, so I found an ebook of it and that's what I'm doing now. Edit: And I've finished it. That was a nice experience.

In Goldeneye, I escaped the capture level. I seriously hope you can skip the conversation with Natalyna or whatever her name is, because that alone eats up
most of 1:30 objective time. I tried out the Statue level. This is actually the level the last owner of this copy left off on, and I can see why. Five or six
objectives in this huge, sprawling level that's kind of dark... should be interesting.

I started Secret of Mana. It's probably too early for me to be stating many opinions yet. I doubt I can remember the exact order of what I've done,
or even everything I've done, but at least
-I got through Potos, beating the boss there (though you can't lose to it) -I went to the water palace. -I was rescued from the goblin pot by the girl (I named her GENIE, ripping off FO) -I went through the forest after Dyluck, until I could go no further. -I went to Gaia's temple, got the Sprite (which I cleverly named SPRITE), the improved mana sword, and the axe. -And returned to the forest, and made it to the witch's castle. |

I beat the witch's pet saber tooth tiger. I guess that got me the whip. After that, you're finally able to enter the waterfall area (which is very
small) to save Undine, the water elemental. That gave us some ice magic. I think I'll have to use that in Gaia's Navel.
I still haven't saved Dyluck. He was captured by the witch, and then sent to Thanatos. The girl is in love with Dyluck (a little unusual, but not unheard of, for the main female character to not be in love with the main male character), so I suppose if we got Dyluck back right away, there'd be no reason for her to stay. |

God of War 2 is still pretty "Meh." I definitely like the first one more than the sequel.
Anyway, I think I'm near the end. I havent posted much progress becuase there's really nothing interesting to report. While its tre that GoW 2 has more boss battles than the first, there's much less variety in them. Even on hard mode, I've beaten several on my first try. I did have serious trouble with one battle. It seemed to last indefinitely (and theres no health bars, so you can't tell how much life the boss has left). There was one part of the battle where an event occurs that looks like it requires some action, but nothing I tried looked like it did anything special. After 45 minutes, I looked at a FAQ and realized I was supposed of use one of my moves that I forgot I had (or at least the graphic that happens when you're supposed to use it didn't register in the context of a boss battle). I beat it on my next try. One thing that seems pretty common in GoW II is to get stuck in a very small area for a long time. Each and every time that happened it was because I tried to do the correct move to get out, but it didn't work the first couple times. For example, I moved a pillar to a certain spot and nothing happened, so I spent half an hour trying other things before trying it again and finding the "sweet spot." As for the difficulty, it's very uneven. There's no real curve; just a few spikes. I sailed through most of the game, but there were one or two spots that seemed very difficult--along the order of the clone fight in GoW compared to the rest of the game. I guess its no surprise about how much hype surrpounds the game, getting nominated for game of the year and whatnot. Just another example of the big hype machine that is moden video gaming and how it centers on the most medicore of games. |

I went back to Gaia's Navel, and beat the Fire Gigas (like an ogre) there. I did beat it on my first try, which FO said was "good". At first, it
seemed difficult to get many hits on it. By the end of the battle, though, it occurred to me that I might as well start getting more use out of the
Sprite's spells, so I cast Drain HP. It did like 150 damage! (Compared to ~20 or 30 for what CRAWL was doing).
I now have another Mana seed, and the Gnome's magic (I haven't used it yet, but I guess it'll be earth magic). Before the boss battle, I did level up the Sprite's and Girl's water magic to level 1. I guess I can post a few early opinions. The story hasn't really grabbed me yet. There's not much going on. I guess there's the bit about rescuing Dyluck, but that's pretty in the background. It's not obvious to me, for example, why going to the Gnome and beating the Fire Gigas relates to rescuing Dyluck. And rescuing some guy named Dyluck, who hasn't really been established as a character, isn't the stuff of epics, anyway. There's the even broader story, of finding the Mana sword and now needing to recharge it, but that's even more vague.

Going to the Earth Palace doesn't relate to saving Dyluck, but it does relate directly to what Luka told you about how you have to find the world's 8
palaces and restore the seals on the Mana Seeds. The empire is trying to break the seals on the Mana Seeds so that they can raise the Mana Fortress. Remember,
THIS is actually your main quest. The Girl is the one who cares about saving Dyluck.
As for Dyluck, well, you were told about someone named Thanatos who is draining the people's life energy in Pandora, and the witch sent Dyluck there. But you haven't resolved that part of the story yet. "My feelings hurt, but you know I overcome the pain

Man, for a long time, it seemed like I just kept going back and forth between Gaia's Navel and the Water Temple. It reminded me of how in Ys 6, you just
kept going to the same places over and over again.
Once when I went back to Gaia's Navel, a hole opened up in the floor in the Dwarf Village. That led to a boss fight there, against a robot that looked like Gato. Then I went back to the Water Temple, and fought a two-headed boss there. Maybe I'll be able to visit new places now. |
