This song is driving me mad. It plays at work all the time and it's so completely awful. It's an old one but I had never heard it before this year. I
wish I could take the original writers and everyone who's ever performed it or enjoyed it, and lock them in a room for a year or two with that song playing
endlessly at the highest possible volume.

Here's one version of it.
May whatever God you believe in have mercy on your soul! I actually do like a lot of the more serious Christmas music even though I'm not a religious person. I could easily do without repeatedly hearing Frosty, Rudolph and all that crap every year.

Christmas songs have a strong
tendency to be bad. (I actually think both "Santa Baby" and "Christmas Shoes" are worse than the Paul McCartney song, but that
one's pretty bad, too.)
Another one I hate is Bruce Springsteen's "Santa Claus is Coming to Town". It's a combination of a general dislike of that song and the way he starts laughing for no apparent reason towards the end of it. Sorry, but it isn't funny. "My feelings hurt, but you know I overcome the pain

I had thought I hadn't heard it until FO played it this morning and jogged my memory.

Ok Cloud I was game and listened to the whole song. Eatha Kitt sounds nice but the song's content leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Somehow Christmas and
Sugar Daddy are not compatible themes for the same song. I tried to listen to the videos on FO's reply but both of them have been taken down.

"Nevertheless, a rule is a rule. We can't go about making exceptions to these rules just because they're stupid. We can't even use a case-by-case basis to see if the intent of the (stupid) rule doesn't apply to this particular book. No, no, a thousand times no! We must have iron-clad, meaningless rules, and we must follow them to the letter!!! Otherwise, anarchy will result." --Dadof3, Snopes messageboard --Well of course anarchy will result! Wonderful Christmas Time actually doesn't bother me much. I wouldn't be adding it to my playlist at home, but I'd pay to have them replace Santa
Baby with that one at work.

Someone at YouTube made the (very valid) point that the echoing synthesizer sounds like nothing but jumbled noises during certain parts of the chorus. (To my
ears, it almost sounds like a bad midi.)
Of course, his post was given a -5 rating and he was told not to comment. "My feelings hurt, but you know I overcome the pain

I'm with CB007 on Wonderful Christmas Time. It plays a lot in a restaurant I frequent....it's easy enough to ignore IMO, if there's enough other
hullabaloo going on.
My school has a choral group that performs Christmas songs, and we're doing a Dave Brubeck rendition of We Three Kings that's really catchy. I also enjoy Carol of the Bells. |

"We Three Kings" and "Carol of the Bells" are favorites of mine. I also like "O Holy Night", "God Rest Ye Merry,
Gentlemen", and Do You Hear What I Hear?". There are others I enjoy too, but that's a decent selection.

OMG, that paul mccartney song is the most annoying thing ever. I never heard it till I moved to NM. I heard it three days in a row in the car, and then it was
playing in the grocery store.

Yeah, when they play it as background music, it's sometimes -- maybe usually -- quiet enough to ignore. But when you can hear it clearly, there's no
mistaking how awful it is.

I like the rock version of Carol of the Bells and some stuff by The Manneheim Steamroller. Generally speaking, if it's modern contemporary Christmas
music, the less likely it is to have lyrics, the more likely I am to enjoy it.
For old "traditional" Christmas music, I tend to agree with CB007 that some of the more "serious" stuff is good, but I hate goofy stuff like Jingle Bells and Jingle Bell Rock. I think the main reason I have such a strong distaste for those songs now is from being forced to sing them year after year in school music classes, and it's impossible for me to listen to Jingle Bells now and not want to segue into "Batman smells..." Where can I find...a bagel? |

Is that a Companion Cube that falls from the sky and explodes towards the end of Wonderful Christmas Time?

I think it's a giant gift box.
I should have clarified that I meant "Contemporary Christmas Songs" have a strong tendency to be bad. Not Christmas songs in general. (I don't usually hear classic ones on the radio, though.) Of course, like with all things, there are exceptions. "My feelings hurt, but you know I overcome the pain

I liked some more obscure Christmas songs, like Coventry Carol, The Boar's Head, The Angel Gabriel, etc.
For more popular ones, yeah, I prefer the "serious" ones: God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, We Three Kings, Do You See What I see. Along with "Batman Smells", whenever we would sing "We Wish You A Merry Christmas" in gradeschool, we would always sing it like, "We WWWWWWWWWWWWWWWISH you a merry Christmas", the class making a loud whishing sound. There's also "Deck the halls with gasoline Fa la la la la, la la la la Light a match and watch it gleam Watch the school burn down to ashes Aren't you glad you played with matches?" |

I'm with Tweeter. I make it a point not to listen to the radio as much as possible this time of year.
