There were a decent number of NES games with parallax. Well... depending on what you find acceptable. Battletoads probably had the "truest" parallax.
A lot had line scrolled parallax (Ninja Gaiden 2, Mega Man 6, etc) I believe Metal Storm had parallax by animating the background tiles to coincide with the scrolling. "Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood." -Orwell |

Anyway, having seen FO play it, I agree that Kirby's Adventure has some impressive graphics.
Its style is very unique, too. Some elements might have inspired Yoshi's Island. It makes interesting use of the NES's color palette: It uses rare pinks and browns, and uses them well. "Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood." -Orwell |

Kirby's Adventure was the last new game I ever remember playing on the NES, and I remember thinking that system went out on a high note for me.

The game itself sucks, but the animation in the NES Dragon's Lair is very smooth. Whomp 'Em looks pretty good as well.

I agree with alot of the choices above. Alot of people when asked this on other forums mention Mario 3. I never thought SMB3's graphics were that great
overall. Some parts like the doomship are OK, but so many of the levels background look so flat to me.
Yeah alot of NES games that came out 1990+ were pretty graphically impressive for 8 bit, and even a few before. Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2 still impress me today. |

I confess that SMB3 doesn't have the best background graphics, but I do like the cartoonish designs for a lot of the enemies and items. And Mario is
better-drawn and animated than he was in any previous game he appeared in (although they went back to making Luigi look identical except for the color after
differentiating him in SMB2).

Some specific games that impress graphically me besides NG:
Little Samson Shadow of the Ninja Bucky Ohare TMNT 3 Vice Project Doom Gargoyles's Quest 2 Yeah most were towards the end of the NES lifespan. Suprise, suprise.
