what is zelda: outlands?

i just got a bunch of stuff, but will restrict this post to only things i'm keeping (or mostly): sega cd (w/ genny attached, in box) $25 -- was $30 but he forgot the controller.
dragon warrior iii $15 (woohoo!)
genesis game genie $5
lunar silver star (cd) $15

oh hell i have to say this... i got dw2 for $12, blazing heroes for $15 HOLY CRAP YEAH, ff2 $15 or 10, and a bunch of other stuff.

also bought an snes + super mario all-stars/sm world for $5!!! at a yard sale.

got resident evil for the gc $10 and re4 for the ps2 for $8 (i really wanted this for the gc as well but i couldn't pass up the opportunity), and some other games.

and i traded a bunch of stuff for secret of mana and ff3.

Yeah, that reminds me. I'll need to clean off my three donor carts and contact him again. I may not want to wait too long on that. Apparently, at one time there were a bunch of different NES reproduction sites, but Leon's is the only one still in operation now.

We'll be donating two Zelda carts for Sweet Home and Zelda Outlands and a Kirby's Adventure cart for Chronicles of the Radia War.

I always wondered what kind of reactions I'd get if I brought an NES Reproductions game into a game store and tried to sell it.

Unfortunately, every store where anyone would give a shit around here has closed. Nothin' but Gamestops anymore.

There's pretty much only one local place we buy used games from anymore. I think the reason it stays in business is because it's actually a music store (mostly used) that just so happens to also have games.

I think I mentioned a while ago some "otaku" type place (Transformers all along the walls, etc.), where FO bought some Atari games. We were looking for that place recently, and we just couldn't find it. We think it must have gone out of business (though its website is still up).

i also want to get chronicles of radia war. and i think it will just be a matter of buying the donor carts off ebay or something since i'd rather use cheap ones than stuff out of my collection or whatever.

looks like i'll be getting chrono trigger and jurassic park for $50. *sigh* it's not a deal the way the guy who wants to sell it to me keeps saying it is. if he had more than just the cart it would be, and if his cart isn't in perfect condition i might just turn him down or offer him less. i'm trying to be up-front w/ him, but maybe i need to be really blunt about it. i can get ct off ebay for $40-50 after s/h. jurassic park isn't really worth anything as far as selling goes. i might enjoy playing it tho. and i'll probably have to turn around and sell ct again after i beat it. so i'm not sure it's even worth the hassle to me. i've wanted this game for a long time and replaying the early parts of it on the ps port has only made me want to play the original that much more (b/c those load times are really awful).

also might be getting a psp soon, finally. as an early bday present from my wife.

Hm, I might actually get a few myself if it's future is uncertain. I don't actually have an NES right now, but I know that when I get another one I'd like to have a few of those games to play on it.

Outlands I'd definately get, and probably FFIII too. If they do requests, it'd be pretty awesome to have Legend of the Blob Bros. 2 on a cart (and it'd be fun to try and make my own label art for it).

Was given Cool Cool Toon for Dreamcast as another late birthday present from a friend. It's pretty fun, but not all that different from other rhythm games. However, it is one of the few games I can use my Neo Geo Pocket link cable with, so I'll get some use out of it for that.

my wife bought me a psp for my upcoming birthday. i've been playing that on the bus ride to work and home. i want to put some music on it and use it as a short life ipod (meaning, only a few hours worth of music), and maybe hack it so i can play psx games on it. of course, i also want to get a handful of games for it. i'm playing brotherhood of the blade or whatever it's called. (it came w/ three games for $100 off craigslist, not too shabby i think).

I picked up Geist for GameCube. It's a pretty fun concept, but I can't play it for long, as first person shooters make me motion sick. The concept of possessing people/animals/items is pretty neat and makes for a few neat boss fights so far, but I'd have to agree with the complaints that the puzzles are perhaps more linear than they need to be. If you had more freedom over how to scare people to make them possessable, it would really be dynamite.

And while I'm posting ... does anyone have some recommendations for the 360? Well, there was a lot of negativity towards Enchanted Arms for a variety of reasons, but I liked it and thought it might have been kind of underrated.

You got Oblivion, which is one of the best choices.

Call of Duty 2 is really good. CoD3 is also fun but maybe more suited to renting since it feels more like an expansion at times.

I think Kameo and Prey are worth at least renting.

Bioshock got amazing reviews, but I haven't played it yet. I'm looking forward to Eternal Sonata a great deal. Blue Dragon looks okay, but it's widely been described as very, very traditional and extremely long. I'm kind of expecting a Dragon Quest sort of game all around. Mass Effect is coming out soon, and that's from the makers of KOTOR.

There are some nifty downloads from the Live Arcade store.

Well, I'm starting to collect Super CD games for the TG-16 (I have Gate and Lords of Thunder), but I don't have the 3.0 card to play them.

I'm thinking what I'll do is get a Japanese to American TG-16 converter and a Japanese System 3.0 card. There aren't many Japanese HUcards I want (Image Fight is the only one that comes to mind), but it will probably cost me as much as an American System 3.0 card, and I'll be covered if I do start a Japanese HUcard collection.

I just picked up Rogue Galaxy for $24 and Steambot Chronicles for $16, so my average cost for each was $20. I picked up Parappa the Rapper on the PSP for $30, which wasn't a sale or anything. I just wanted the game. I'd wanted the two RPGs, as well. Getting them extremely cheaply without resorting to buying them used? That was just a nice bonus.

I bought a Wii today. I went into Best Buy the day before to buy a new monitor, and I offhandedly asked if they had any Wiis in stock. The girl said they expected a shipment the next day, and to show up at 9 when they opened because they always sell out in an hour.

So I show up at 8:50, and I see the store doesn't open until 10. This worried me, because if she didn't know what time the store, opened, how could she know the wiis were in stock? So I waited outside for an hour. In the middle of the wait, I saw an employee showing up for work, and asked him about the wiis. He came out 5 min later and said they had 10 in stock.

By the time they opened 4 other parties had showed up to get one. So yeah, I came away with one.

Not planning on playing it anytime soon, but I played one with a fellow faculty member and it was pretty fun. However, my main motivation to get one was that playing was actually heart-pumping after awhile (tennis and boxing, mainly) so I figured since I never get any exercise it might be a good way to avoid getting fat in my middle age (and I hate things like treadmills).

Nintendo recently said that there's not going to be enough for everyone to get one for Christmas. That could be just to get people to buy it early, but I think they really are having trouble getting enough made.

I think they could if you act out all the motions. But many of those games can easily be played with a flick of the wrist rather than mimicking real life movements, so motivation might be an issue. There's a game coming out in Japan called Wii Fit that comes with a balance board and lets you do different exercises and track your progress.

Nintendo of Europe's E3 2007 page for the United Kingdom states that the training within Wii Fit will be divided into four categories: Aerobic Exercise, lasting ten minutes, Muscle Conditioning, Yoga Poses, and Balance Games, including ski-jumping. These exercises will provide a "core workout", emphasizing slower, controlled motions.

Yeah, but ... it seems like maybe just one notch up above simply sitting on the coach, doing nothing. So, if your alternative is just sitting on the coach, doing nothing, then I guess it is technically some improvement, but I also think ANYTHING else would be better exercise. How many calories can you burn playing Wii Sports? Even if you're bouncing around, you're not moving THAT much, right? And there's no weight resistance, right?

I guess Dance Dance Revolution can count as some sort of exercise (I've heard second hand). But even that doesn't have to be that much. I saw this one kid play on an arcade machine where FO and I see movies sometimes. (It was right next to a Donkey Kong machine FO sometimes plays). He looked like he was OK at the game, at least. He might not have gotten 100%, but he looked to be playing on an advanced difficulty, and missed few moves.

But this is how he played: He leaned back, so that his body was resting on this metal bar behind the playing area. Then he just hammered away with his feet.

So, even as fast as that was, you're not really moving much of your body.

I haven't bought anything in awhile because I'm thinking of saving money to take some more college classes in spring. I'm going to check into art or writing classes this time, though I wish they had more in photography.
