I'm not sure what the point of those "live-action" trailers even are. They aren't funny in the least. Actually, I fear the point is to
justify making a CG movie over a live-action movie (but why do they feel this even needs to be justified? Is there some kind of backlash against CG movies
outside of this forum? I have seen no evidence of it myself.)
For one thing, they use E.T. as an example. Steven Spielberg says, "E.T. was made with chicken wire and paper maché", then a scene is shown of the CG bee zipping through cars. When he's done, he says, "Let's see Spielberg do THAT with chicken wire and paper maché". Uh, yeah. But E.T. and Elliott flying against the moon in their bikes is far more interesting and iconic than a bee flying through cars. It's like people have completely forgotten what makes things good. |

I hate the faces in that movie. They have skinny noses that aren't appealing or cartoonish. They're also bland and generic. I get the feeling that
the characters look like that because they're trying to make them look more like "real" people rather than cartoons. But the result is the sort
of thing that could bring tears to a child's eyes.

seems like a cheaper alternative. I love hand drawn animation but the last one I can think of is "Les Triplette de Belleville" It's a good movie
and you should all see it. Oh, anybody bring up cell shading, I wasn't a fan of it until i was told that Dark Cloud 2 is Cel-shaded, now there is a
beautiful game.

I heard that Ratatouille wasn't originally Brad Bird's film, but they brought him in to salvage it when it wasn't working out right. It definitely feels like something like that happened to it. |

The Secret of Nimh movie wasn't anywhere near as good as the book. I remember being really disappointed that they used magic to solve the problem
instead of the complicated machinery the rats built in the book.
My main problem with these movies is that people laugh at crap (and even quote it frequently) that they wouldn't dream of laughing at in a live action or hand-drawn film. Trite, predictable humor may pass for small children who haven't seen that sort of thing before, but adults laughing at the kind of garbage movies like Monsters, Inc. shove down your throat just baffles me. It's like a joke wouldn't be funny if I said it, but because some all too fluidly animated blue monster says it, it's AMAZING.That's the reason the universal over-gushing praise The Incredibles gets pisses me off so much. There's not a single thing in that movie that hasn't been done before, and done better, by Saturday morning cartoons in the past. |

Well, apparently Bee Movie turned CGI behind my back, because back when I stated that last page, the only evidence of the movie was of Jerry Seinfeld in the
suit with Chris Tucker. I think there was even a Seinfeld interview about it and someone made a joke at his expense. My understanding and interpretation of the
situation was that there was backlash at the idea of Jerry Seinfeld in a bee costume, and then they turned it into a cartoon because of that backlash. Maybe
the world's out to make me look stupid.
Not exactly reaching for the stars there. 
The Beowulf movie looks like it's along the lines of the Final Fantasy movie in the sense that they could probably have done it all with the actual actors and actresses and saved more money. Grendel's Mother, voiced by Angelina Jolie, bears an uncanny resemblance to... Angelina Jolie. At least this time it really is hard to tell that it's CGI, so I think animators can literally do anything with CGI. Now animators need to stop proving that to us. I didn't really mind Ratatouille. It was, like many other kid's movies, about self-identity. It made sense for the characters to be so defined by who they were. Even if the stating of personal traits did wear thin, would kids be astute enough to gather the female cook's limitations and, consequently, her attitude? Do they really understand the glass ceiling? I would think that the young'uns might need a little leg-up on issues like that. |

Ah, I never read the book of Secret of Nimh, so I don't really have that frame of reference in my enjoying it or not... actually, I think one of my
teachers in elementary school might've read it aloud to the class a few chapters at a time, but I was probably too busy drawing or looking through baseball
cards I'd snuck in. :/
