The theater for this movie was more packed than the last couple of movies we've seen. So, it was a community experience -- probably the first time I've experienced The Simpsons that way.

I think at least somebody laughed for every joke in the movie, though on the other hand I don't think there was a single joke that everyone laughed at. Some of the "edgy" jokes (Homer flipping through the bible and yelling, "This book doesn't have any answers!") had maybe a third of the audience react with palpable discomfort (though they were back for the next joke).

It seemed like the first half of the movie was funnier than the second.

Frickin' Fred Durst on Stilts

I almost hate to admit it, but that was the best movie I've seen in theaters in a long time. These observations might be spoilers, so I'll black them out:

- I haven't seen as much of the Simpsons TV show as Crawl has, and yet I still recognized one of the scenes as a callback to something from Season 1.

- I liked that the resolution was foreshadowed, but not in such a way that I saw it coming.

FO said this was a better TV-to-movie movie than some other adaptations, but we also quickly decided that the only way it could have been worse than The Transformers Movie (1984) would have been if Homer, Marge, Maggie, Bart and Lisa were killed in the first 20 minutes, and the rest of the movie followed unrelated characters we've never seen before.

Speaking of Homer, Bart, et al...

It seemed like Bart was the main character in the first couple of seasons, then the focus shifted to Homer, with a few individual episodes devoted to the other characters.

The movie did a pretty good job of giving all of The Simpsons equal weight. (Homer is still probably the main character, in terms of being the "Protagonist", though.)

I think what made me initially compare it to the (old) Transformers movie is that both assume the audience already has familiarity with the characters and both jump right into the shenanigans with little set-up. But The Simpsons movie is far more faithful to its audience. And they also can get away with it much more easily because they've been around many, many more years than the Transformers were when the movie came out and have a larger fanbase with a wider age range. I'm sure most people who go to see The Simpsons Movie have at least minimal familiarity with them whereas adults who took their kids to see Transformers probably didn't know Optimus Prime from Spike Witwicky.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of The Simpsons, but I caught this last night because I was in the mood to see a movie and I heard some good things about it. I actually did laugh quite a few times and just like FO, even though I only watch the series off-and-on I also caught the reference to a certain Season 1 episode. It made me want to go back and watch some of the older seasons again now. Hm..I think my local Blockbuster has the DVDs for rentals...

hmm.. now i remember that south park replaced my interest in yankee cartoons. king of the hill was rather blah. and family guy was on tv when i didn't have a tv. officially , i still don't have a tv 'cause i'm owning one illegally in my country. which means, i'm also owning a radio illegally. anyways, i lost in interest in south park too, 'cause i could only watch it via illegal means. not very convienent(sp?).

There used to be a website that had every South Park episode on it, but (not surprisingly) it used up its bandwidth. I'm not sure what happened to it after that.

The movie was awesome! Better then the show has been in years.

Saw this today. Couldn't believe how many times I laughed at it (considering I usually only get a chuckle or two out of a full episode these days).
There was a problem where for about 20 minutes the picture was really shaky but they eventually fixed it. It was a 5PM showing, so there weren't many people, but almost everyone seemed to enjoy it. There was one kid who must've been 5 or 6 (he kept calling the screen a TV so it might have been his first movie). I'm not sure that this movie is the best choice for that age group.
