Children's books might play a legitimate role in teaching children to read.
Do children really need to "learn" to watch a movie?
Really baby-ish television does exist (eg., Teletubbies), but that echoes FO's comment about Yoshi's Story costing $60. Those baby television shows broadcast on public television and are made for much lower budgets than feature films. I don't think many parents would be willing to drop $30 to take a small family out to see a Teletubbies-like movie in the theater.
And for videogames, do kids need to "learn" to play those, either? I'm sure just about all of us had started videogaming with games that weren't as babyish as Yoshi's Story ... and were better off for it.
