I know what Debbie asked for, but I don't feel it's always necessary for
developers to come right out and say, "Yes this character is LGBT!!" in
blinking lights and flying colors. If they're male, but dressing like
women, or referring to themselves as women, or vice versa, then it's not
wrong to take it for what it is.

It's not the same as complaining that a game sucks because it has an LGBT character or theme in it.

Dragon Warrior 3 is another oddball because you can choose to play as
male or female, but even if you choose female, none of the dialogue
changes, meaning you still get referred to as "he" and "him". This has
stirred debate over whether the female character is disguised as a man,
or if the gender only applies to the player and not the character, who
may actually be male no matter what.

I also heard that the reason the sprite may have been made ambiguously
gendered is because of the three-player aspect. If two boys were playing
the game or two girls, they could each have a character that represents
their gender if they wanted.
