But for some reason Pam's mom has morphed into a different woman from the "Sexual Harassment" episode.

I thought the wedding episode was pretty good. It was more funny than sentimental, and was more about logistic difficulties than the actual ceremony. It also
had the escapism factor by seeming to be way more fun than any wedding you've been to (which are usually pretty stuck up, excessively serious affairs).
But for some reason Pam's mom has morphed into a different woman from the "Sexual Harassment" episode. |

Not my all-time favorite episode of the Office (Stress Relief holds that honor - seriously, Super Bowl episodes are so good), but I thought it was pretty good,
too. The wedding was just what such an event demanded. It was like the proposal in that regard: understated, but romantic in its spontaneity.
Crawl and 1OOO wrote:I think this was the only thing that bothered me about that episode. Pam's mom was supposed to be where she got her "sweetness" but she seemed almost vindictive (though justified) in this. And that ending stinger almost seems incestuous. The relationship was so wrong. |

It seems like a lot of times, one of Creed's gags is what makes FO laugh hardest in an episode. That includes
-When he said "What's all this for if I can't scuba?" -When everyone else was throwing up, and he was eating his noodles. -When Jim piped the opera into the office, and everyone else was confused, and Creed started crying. On last 30 Rock, FO's favorite joke was when Tracey Morgan said a book hasn't caused this much trouble since Where's Waldo went to that barber pole factory.

Last night's Office was extremely uncomfortable. I laughed a lot, but I was squirming a lot, too.

It felt more like a classic episode in that way, like when Michael pretended to be Hitler in the first episode: it was really awkward and painful, but it said
a lot about everyone involved and it was how you expected them to react in that situation.
Except Pam, who has grown from the meek person she was in episode 1. |

That episode was indeed a lot like the earlier episodes, which also made it feel closer in tone and style to the original British version. It's interesting
how most of the characters have developed over the series' run. Whereas Michael, Pam, Jim, and Dwight were mostly just American counterparts to character
from the British show at first, they've really grown into their own over the years.
I caught tonight's Monk too, and it kinda pissed me off. At the beginning he goes in front of a committee to get his job on the police force back (which he lost before the series began). And, at the end of the episode, he returns for their final decision and... he isn't reinstated onto the force. I just don't get it. It's the last season; returning everything to the status quo at the end of the episode at this point just feels cheap. It feels especially cheap in this situation, making it feel like in all this time, there's been no development to Monk's character or improvement in his condition. |

I'm starting to laugh a lot more at 30 Rock than The Office now. The Dwight/Andy favor routine was amusing at first, but it went on too long and wasn't
funny anymore, and the rest of the episode was drama, drama, drama.

I didn't find the situation on last night's 30 Rock very believable. Liz should know by now that those two actors are crazy and shouldn't be taking
their advice. I got distracted by that and felt like I was just waiting for the inevitable conclusion and fell asleep.

Regarding The Office vs 30 Rock, I think The Office has characters I care more about, and who are better defined. On 30 Rock, the jokes live or die by how
witty they are ... which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but they usually can't get humor out of a specific
character doing a specific thing. Maybe Kenneth is starting to grow that way. Like last week, when it turned out Kenneth spoke Latin. That wouldn't have
even made sense, let alone be a joke, if it had been any one other than Kenneth.
Whereas on The Office last night, when Dwight punched himself in the crotch, it was funny partially because it's just a funny thing, but it was extra hilarious because it was Dwight. |

I've noticed a consistent pattern in which every week I get the biggest laugh from a Creed joke on the Office and a Tracy Jordan joke on 30 Rock. Last
week's Office didn't have a Creed joke. This week had him drive away after he was accused of murder, which made me laugh harder than anything else in
that episode. The Tracy Jordan joke that made me laugh the hardest was when he was shown on the "Sports Shouting" show.

There was a Creed joke last week, but it was pretty subtle so you might have missed it.
Helene: Wait a minute. [looks at the bag in Michael's hand] Is that another birthday present for me cause you already gave me a
necklace.
Kelly: Oh my God I love it. [looks at camera and shakes head] Helene: Tell her how you gave it to me. Michael: No, that wouldn't be-- Helene: He put it around my neck while I was still asleep this morning. What a nice way to wake up. Michael: Yeah. The rest of the story has been censored due to-- inappropriosity. Kevin: Because of sex? Michael: Hey-- Pam: Kevin! Michael: Please, Kevin. You're fired. [Kevin looks at Jim; Jim shakes his head] Sorry, sorry. Work with a bunch of idiots. Shall we go? Pam: Yes, let's go. [looks at Erin and nods] Erin: Oh, wait. Um-- Swartz Lumber is on the phone for you Pam and they say it's urgent. Pam: Oh, you guys. Just one second. [picks up phone] Oh my gosh! Are you serious? Shipping emergency. I don't think I can go to lunch. Jim: Oh man, that's crazy. Right as we were on our way out too. Pam: I know. Isn't that always how it goes? Jim: Rarely. If ever. Let me give it a whirl. I'll talk to them. Pam: I want to handle it. Jim: That's okay. Pam: I feel like its-- Jim: It's my pleasure. [takes phone from Pam] Hello? Well that's great. [hangs up phone] Turns out the paper was there all along. Creed: [sighs] Thank God. Creed: Something's up. That paper was never supposed to arrive.

I often think about the original Office Halloween episode and how most Creed jokes are just a running gag on how Michael should have fired him instead of the
other guy.
EDIT: Oh, something else I wanted to ask about the Office: Where does Creed sit now? Jim got a separate office, and it occupies a space previously held by Meredith and Creed. Now, I have no idea where either of them sit. I'm blanking out as to who else moved in the shift - there were two desks adjacent to them on both sides, originally holding Ryan, the Stanford transplants, and someone else who completely escapes me at the moment. Kelly and Toby have always been in the back office (Customer Service and HR, their own departments). The five/six salespeople were near Michael's office, and that hasn't changed. Accounting still has the same layout, too. I could mentally walk through that portion of the building and know where everyone sat, but now there's something really off about the floor arrangement now. And Jim's office is insultingly small compared to Michael's. Had I not known what it was like before, I would say there's a real problem.

Michael was supposed to have been promoted, and he does have seniority, so there shouldn't be an issue with him
having a larger office.
I thought Jim's office was in the corner, while Creed and Meredith were against the wall across from Michael's office. But I could be wrong. I just a few episodes ago saw that Kelly's annex was through the break room, away from everyone else. Previously, I thought you get there through accounting or something.

Here's my attempt at a map of the office in The Office.
This would be after Karen left, but before Pam and Jim were promoted. Ryan moves around a lot, so I didn't know where to put him. I really don't know where he is now. I'm not sure what's in that lower right corner. I think their copier used to be in the area between the salesmen and Creed/Meredith. And Toby wasn't always in the annex. Michael moved him there as punishment awhile ago. I don't know where he was before. |

Here's someone
else's.
Huh, they have accounting flipped to the other side of the office, by Pam? That just doesn't seem right to me; it seems like whenever they look out of Michael's office or the conference room, accounting is on the left. I guess I'll have to pay attention next time. If they are right, though, then where they have their ? could be where Toby used to be. And, yeah, I was technically wrong in that the break room and the kitchen are kind of two separate things. |

Here's something.
You can see the office and move around a little. The better of the two for figuring out the layout of the place is "office 2". I think I was right about accounting.
That's standing right outside the conference room, facing Andy's desk. And accounting is right there on the left, near the break room.
And this is facing towards's Pam's old desk. I couldn't move around, but it doesn't look like there's anything there other than files. But still it's kind of neat. I don't know if I noticed or remembered the "Exit" door by Creed. Or another exit (to the breakroom or annex or something?) close to Andy. |

An interesting difference to note between the US and UK versions of the Office is that the office in the original was much more claustrophobic and
uncomfortable looking. The original also had really grungy lighting, while the US version's is relatively well-lit.
Apparently, there are many more versions of the Office now. There's Spanish version, and French versions, and Brazilian versions, and more. Not just in
different languages, but their very own shows with different characters and everything (although probably still based on the same archetypes.)
I do agree with FO that the drama is starting to overpower the comedy in the US Office. Like when Michael shouted at Jim in the last episode. That was really uncomfortable, and not in a humorous way. |

The lower right corner of your diagram is where accouting goes. Accounting has been behind Pam's reception desk for as long as I can remember. There were
several jokes where Angela would glare over the dividing wall at Pam. That glass partition separating Kevin and Angela has been there for a while, too. I'm
pretty sure it's just Dwight and Pam at the center sales desk. The camera angles are so strange that it's hard to keep all of this straight, yet
fascinating to try.
It looks like whoever did the hand-drawn one doesn't know who sits across from Creed, either. I guess it's an empty desk then, originally held by one of the Stanford folk? There was once an elderly woman who worked in that office during season one (which I think was supposed to be the character referenced in a joke concerning the suggestion box). That still doesn't clarify what happened to Creed when Jim's office took up that space. I suppose if Ryan is working near Pam and Dwight, Creed would be working across from Meredith (there are two desks near the exit door still), and... yeah, then everyone fits. Behind the kitchen is a storage room, I think. That may have been where Dwight started the fire in Stress Relief. It's been a while since I've seen that episode. There's a window in the conference room to a blank hall, but not quite sure why. There have been two fires and people have yet to use either the exit door in back or the supposed stairs near Stanley. ...This is all more my obsession with spatial relation than it is being a rabid Office fan. |

Having never seen an episode of The Office before, it took me a while to realize "Creed" was a character on the show and not the band everyone around
here hates.
