There's a problem now with screens being advertised as Imax when they're not at all huge. Blog 1. Blog 2.
I've only seen Imax movies at a few places. Cedar Point used to have an Imax screen. It was certainly huge -- this site claims 66 by 88 feet. It only showed nature shorts. When you'd see helicopter footage of mountains and canyons, it felt like you were flying over them.
They got rid of the Imax screen and replaced it with the Snoopy Ice Skating show in 2002, the year FO moved to Ohio, so she never got a chance to see it.
The only feature film I saw in Imax was 300. Was that real Imax? The screen seemed larger than normal. According to this site, it was even bigger than the Cedar Point screen, at 80 by 100 feet.
So, yeah, I'd be really disappointed if I paid extra for Imax and didn't get a screen comparible to those that I was familiar with. It might be worth checking ahead of time if your local theater has real Imax or whatever this fake small current bullshit is.
