This is the second time you've merged the idea of internet lamers with network censors. Is there a particular reason for that or is it just because you find both very annoying?

Man, it seems like the people over there get their panties in a bunch over the dumbest things. The article states right up front that it's about nudity, so
if they knew it would offend them they just shouldn't have read it. (And it's not as though it's not tastefully done. I hope they never visit an
art museum.) I guess the one good thing about it is that it seems like this site alone could provide enough material to the Site Tracking Adventures to keep
them going for awhile. I enjoyed that song, too.

I was wondering if it was coincidence that FOUM MOUN was so close to FO[r]um MO[r][o]n. That part of it's actually just coincidence. I got the idea for the FallenOverUs MakeMoneyOffUs Network from the "Makeoverus Lotsabucks" that JMS named for the network censor who changed Janine (which was one thing he didn't talk about during that commentary track). "FallenOverUs" is a direct take on "StumbleUpon" and "MakeMoneyOffUs" is a stab at how a big site like that makes its money being a linkfarm. (And I'll bet StumbleUpon has a higher page rank than many of the sites it reaps, yet us smaller sites are penalized by Google for having too many outbound links.) Mandor Globber's name is a take on Random Blogger. DOVEBLOB wrote:I don't know if they were "offended" by it (but as Sesa pointed out the last time, you can't tell because their "reviews" don't explain anything), so much as that they just have absolutely no idea of the concept of a fan site and what they're supposed to do. Not only that, but the people there are SO dumb that the only things they rate high are some of the worst garbage the internet has to offer. Look at that webcomic that "deadrascal" gave four stars to. I doubt that if someone pressured him to say exactly what about it deserves 4 stars that he'd be able to back it up. In fact, I've been wondering now if instead of just doing the oddities the way I do with screenshots and text, if I drew everything all out as a webcomic if they'd suddenly start giving it four stars. This is the second time you've merged the idea of internet lamers with network censors. Is there a particular reason for that or is it just because you find both very annoying? Yes, I see them as very similarly-minded people who cause similar results. Both try to bring everything around them down to the mental level of a 2-year-old. |

I'm glad I have those Ghostbusters DVDs, otherwise some of the humor of that might have been lost on me.
What made me laugh was the picture you used of Nucleo for Mandor's argument that he's evil. It's like the least possible threatening picture around. |

I had to laugh out loud at that most recent guy's comment. Only kids at StumbleUpon would become screwed-up from seeing a little 8-bit nudity.

I guess some of the dialogue in this one is inspired by things I've said.

I wonder what would happen if we intentionally pranked this site. Say we created some phony reviews or something as a joke and submitted it. Actually, we
already have some stuff on our sites that could probably count for that, like FO's review of Harvest Moon 64 or ErniePants's Rules of the BBS.

I had the same exact idea, but I can't figure out how to submit a page to the site. You must have to download that toolbar. (*groan*)
Also, if anyone figures out how to do it, make sure you don't leave any evidence that the site is yours. I read somewhere around there that you're not supposed to submit your own sites to StumbleUpon. So, just don't say something like, "Here's a site I made", instead say, "Here's a site I found". |

Oh man...If I could manage to get the damn archive finished, I could submit the Timmy Comics from Lisker's site...
Or what about La NES Creche? I actually already have that online. |

Mandor: Well...what has he done for me lately? When I got to that part, I laughed so hard I couldn't breath for a while. I think that is based on something I said, but it was still pretty funny due to the recontextualization, how that little moldy guy is mad that Nucleo hasn't done anything good for him specifically. |

Just a note on that - I couldn't claim to be the only site that has that song's lyrics, but when I originally posted them to the forums in an old
Lyrics topic (around the time of the 2005 hacker attack), they were not available online at any site that I could find through Googling, so I had to transcribe
them by ear. Even though I couldn't claim an exclusive this time, I still gave myself my transcription credit.

I just hope Mandor calling Lizaki "FOOL" in all caps was a jab at the Paradise Resort lamers, and even if it wasn't I'll just happily pretend
it is.

It might have been on my subconscious, but it wasn't blatantly intentional...
I need to work a little on Mandor's "voice", though. I don't yet hear a distinct voice in my head when I read his dialogue. I kind of have one, but it's not quite "there" yet, if that makes any sense. I think there might be a few reasons I'm finding him a bit difficult to write... 1. He's a parody of several different things rolled into one. Internet lamers, network censors, and bad 80's cartoon mistake characters. But it's sometimes difficult to write a parody of something without it just turning into that something. That's one of the reasons I added a few "Crawl-isms" to his dialogue, too. 2. Almost every other character I have I've been writing for years. I think the only other completely new ones were Bubu and Jaeger Dunlin III. But Mandor's new and I'm not as used to him. 3. It's no secret that I sometimes draw inspiration for characters from people I've known on these forums for years, but I find it easier to "leap" into the personality of someone I have an understanding of than to "leap" into the personality of people that make no sense to me.

I'd seen people do these sketch things on NES sites before, and most of the times I never laughed at them. So, when I saw FO was doing her own, my first
thought was, "Not another one of these things. She should probably just write reviews", and damn was I wrong.

Well, the reason why those NES character sketches are almost never good is because most NES characters are blank slates in personality, and the
"joke" is almost always to have the characters act in a way they don't normally in the games. (I'm guilty of this, too. I once wrote a parody
of Kirby's Dream Land in which Kirby was a loudmouth who cursed a lot.)
This is something that proved even difficult for the "professionals" to handle when you look at Captain N. Season 2 Captain N has some really decent writing, but Kid Icarus and Mega Man have no personality in Season 2 (and in Season 1, they both have the same personality, and it isn't much other than whining about being different from the more "normal" human characters), so the plots end up focusing more on Kevin, Lana, and Simon with KI and MM being mostly in the background. But with the RAU Gallery, you can tell right away that FO is drawing from the characters' backgrounds in her old comics and scripts, which gives her a lot more to play off of. That history gives her characters a strong reason for being together and experiences which shaped who they are and what they think of each other. Captain N was so focused on the vicarious aspect of Kevin that the other characters got shortchanged. One thing I find interesting about both Nucleo and Honen is how they're the main representatives of their species in the RAU, but neither is typical of the species. It sounds like that's true of Lizaki, too. |

It sounds like that's true of Lizaki, too.I don't know if that idea is necessarily all that uncommon, but it did seem more common in older cartoons for there to be entire races of evil beings, and I'm of the mind that most people are basically people, despite cultural and physical differences. It's not always easy thinking of new ways to represent ideas in it. I was reading a sketch-style series on another site I happened upon and I couldn't read any of the author's characters in any voice but his own. In situations like that, I almost feel tempted to give the author a few pointers, but they'd probably be offended, and that might be a rather egotistical thing for me to do (moreso than I usually am, anyway). |

Mandor's calling Nucleo "evil" because he has fangs and claws is a parody of this, right?
