Banjo Tooie seems to be based on bigger is better, and totally f-ing enormous is best of all. Seriously, just the first world of this game is big enough to
hold the entire first world of BK several times over. Even even the hub areas are huge, and this all bogs the frame rate down a bit.
Unfortunately, so far, while there's more to explore, most if it is not nearly as interesting as in the first one. And the whole tone of the story and environments is noticeably darker. It's not some serious drama or anything, but I miss how lighthearted and fairy tale-ish the first one was.
Right from the start of BK, I think there's a strong desire to get to the top of Grunty's tower and face her, but now I'm not really sure what I'm even doing. I guess collecting Jigsaws so Grunty and her sisters don't zombify the Jinjo race. I don't really remember how those things are connected anymore.
Jamjars the mole, who takes the place of Bottles, manages to be much more obnoxious.
The notes now come in packs of 5 or more (you basically collect one note that's worth 5 notes, if that makes sense), and I think it takes away some of the fun of collecting them. I had all the notes in World 1 in like 2 minutes, even though I hadn't found a single Jigsaw piece yet. Also, just like the remake of BK, notes are saved whether you die or quit. Considering the level sizes, that's probably a blessing in this game. I'm actually expecting notes to be much less important as a whole for progression, but we'll see.
On the plus side, the first person shooter mode for shooting eggs in sort of interesting, especially combined with the ability to zoom in while in first person. Mumbo is now playable and that might be fun. I got to use him to activate a gold giant creature and then control that. You're two steps removed from Banjo and Kazooie (the characters) at that point, which feels a little weird.
Also, I didn't lose much, but the one time I didn't clean a new cartridge before playing, it locks up on me. But I've got 3 Jigsaws and 100 notes... and for the first world, 1 magic creature. And 1 of 3 new moves. And 1 Jinjo. Yeah, lots of collecting.
