Is this mosquito insane? |

I have a mosquito in my lab. It looks to me like it's trying to drink blood from the banana I brought for lunch. Sometimes it raises its back leg up, way
over its body.
I think it might be starving to death (not a lot to eat in a lab) and that's driving it insane. |

It's a mosquito. It's tried to drink my blood several times. If I shoo it away forcefully enough, it doesn't come back. Then it starts landing
on and running over random surfaces, trying to stick its proboscis in and drink.

I know that only the female mosquitos drink blood. Males eat fruit. Maybe females can eat fruit, too, but just prefer blood?

Female mosquitoes only drink blood for maternal needs, otherwise they eat fruit like the males. The males don't drink blood at all.

By the way, when I say, "random surfaces", I mean random. The banana was one, but it also seemed to have tried drinking blood from my keyboard, and
a wooden counter.
