Those Bionic Commando screenshots do show an interesting contrast. And I do think the NES one looks nice.

Okay, so I tried Spore. The first phase is like Flow where you control a simple organism, only it's actually pleasant to look at, and has slightly more
danger, and you can actually have a say in what your creature becomes.
So I played through that part and reached the point where my species has evolved enough to head out onto dry land. This is the appearance of the first land dwelling generation. He doesn't have a very good name right now. The second picture is a somewhat low quality screencap of him walking around his home planet. |

Because it was funny to put whatever part that was in that spot. I think it was some kind of protection like what's on it's knees. One thing that was
kind of enjoyable was putting a couple sets of wings on it and having it actually be able to fly a little.

Even the goose and the owl look generic to me. I never really understood why cartoon owls almost always look the same when in reality, there are many different species that all look quite different. Snowy Owls, Barn Owls, Hawk-Owls, Burrowing Owls, Great Horned Owls, Screech Owls, etc. |

Flying Omelette wrote: I don't know if I've thought about it too much before, but it probably is a problem to have cartoon animals look too "realistic". They need to be stylized more to look more unique. |
