Christmas - Everything about the holiday season sucks. Period. (Except the time off from work.)

Birthdays - The only time birthdays are any good is when you're a kid, and then only if you're a kid of rich parents who can actually afford a birthday party for you and care enough about you to make the party be for you. Even when I was a kid, I didn't like birthdays too much because my mother's way of "celebrating" it was to invite a bunch of her friends and family over and then send us to our rooms where we had to be quiet so as not to disturb the adults' conversations. Seems like my brother does the same thing for his kids' parties.

Yeah, I feel the same way. Also it feels like a celebration of all the things I didn't do throughout the year. "Happy birthday! Another year slipped you by! Better luck next time."

My parents never threw me a big birthday party (that centered around me and not them), but I'm not sure I would've relished the attention.

I can't help it, even though I'm not religious and I'm always tired of the decorations because I've seen them in our store since Halloween Night, I love Christmas anyway.

Birthdays I don't care so much about one way or the other.

Yeah, come on, Christmas is great. Aside from the day off, I get to spend time with FO, we often have a nice dinner, and I have a lot of fond Christmas memories. Heck, the last time I visited FO in New Jersey before she came her was at Christmas. I think I even have a really cute picture of FO from that day.

I kind of agree about birthdays. I had experiences vaguely similar to FO's. My mother would ask me what I wanted to do for my birthday, I would always suggest things that kids would like to do (like go to an arcade place), she would always veto it, but would keep asking what I wanted, until I had no option but to suggest a place she wanted to go (usually a Mexican restaurant). Even that wouldn't have been so bad (I understand, at least now, that arcades could be difficult to afford), but then she'd always talk with my grandmother, and if I said anything, she'd yell at me.

And even that would be something I could get over, but my grandmother was getting in the pattern of saying the same things every time we'd visit her. She would constantly ask us if we had a DVD player, and we'd say, "Not exactly, but we do have a Playstation 2, which can be used as a DVD player." Then she'd ask us the same thing the next week.

Then she started saying, "Remember how when you were a little kid, and you always wanted to go to Mexican restaurants on your birthday?" And I'd say, "Uh, not really. I pretty much had to go there because my mother wouldn't take me anywhere else, and I didn't enjoy being there when I was there." Next week, she'd say the same thing again.

Easter might be overrated. I haven't even gotten time off for that in years.

And what is with Jewish holidays coincidentally coinciding with Christian holidays? Like Hanukkah taking place at the same time as Christmas, and Pass Over taking place at the same time as Easter. Pass Over has to be overrated, too. Basically what you'd be celebrating is the idea of the death of thousands of Egyptian children. That's pleasant.

Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur are the big Jewish holidays. I guess Passover's pretty big; Hanukkah's trivial though. The only reason you hear of Hanukkah is because it happens at the same time as Christmas. Basically Jewish people need something to do in December, and Hanukkah was marketable, so bing.

I kinda hated Christmas Eve for awhile because it was spent with my extended family and was basically a 5 hour opportunity to explain myself and get some gift cards. The last two years I've lied and said I had to work on Christmas Eve and just went for a nice little drive instead. It's actually a pretty good time to be on the road, there's not a lot of traffic and everything's really quiet.

I wonder if I'll be able to go three in a row and cheat my way out of it this year, too.

I'm not too fond of Thanksgiving. I don't see the point of a miniature Christmas one month before Christmas. It's a day you're supposed to be thankful, eat a lot, and spend time with family, but everyone says that's what Christmas is really all about, too, so...

Although the turkey dinner is another thing I don't mind about Christmas, I basically agree with that. That point was actually brought up once before (I don't remember if it was you or someone else who said it, though.)

I enjoy the time off from work, but I also feel those holidays are just simply too close together. I'd rather have one in the middle of the year so you could have a four day weekened when the weather might be warmer and without a holiday shopping season right around the corner, the roads and parking lots won't be as busy.

Sometimes when you have to spend an entire day at a relative's house, it doesn't really feel like a day off anyway.

i hate holidays for the sales. i ain't got no fucking money to spend on sales whenever there's a holiday, and we're suppose to have the least number of public holidays in the world.

Wow. I'm surprised no one said Valentine's Day. I thought a lot of men hated that day.

I used to get really excited about birthdays, Halloween, and Christmas, but now aside from the food and gift exchanges with my close personal friends and family, I'm starting to feel indifferent to them. It's become too routine. I also agree about Thanksgiving being too close to Christmas. The funny thing is that when I was younger I don't remember them seeming all that close together. Now that I'm older and participate more in the work involved I do get this feeling like I just did this a few weeks ago.

Where can I find...a bagel?

I hated Valentine's Day after I broke up with Yujiko, but ever since I got over her I've been indifferent to it.

Father's Day is another one I don't like because I don't really know my father and I just hate hearing all over the radio and TV about how it's Father's Day and you should get something nice for him. I just want to scream, "Oh, shut up, already!"

Wow, you guys got totally ripped off on the birthdays. My parents always made sure that it was a day where we did what I wanted. True, I never wanted much, but it's been an agreement in our family: the birthday boy/girl makes the call on family activities.

I've always enjoyed holidays, too, but Halloween seems a bit overrated to me. I always jokingly refer to Halloween as the anti-Easter. On Easter, you get a basket of candy delivered to you by an adorable, fuzzy animal of myth and you get to pick up multi-colored eggs from various locations. Halloween, however, you get single-colored eggs (usually green) delivered to you (usually in a throwing motion) and you get to gather the candy (which may or may not contain poison) from various locations (that you would never go to in broad daylight).

I stopped trick-or-treating around when I was 10 and opted to give candy to the kiddies who visited our house. Unfortunately, no kiddies visited our house because it was a somewhat bad neighborhood. Also, since Nevada was made a state on Halloween, we have a state holiday that often times bumps Halloween to a different day altogether, so you have to look up when trick-or-treating is happening. We get a day off of school and work (stolen from Columbus Day), but it's not the same day we do the aforementioned candy-gathering and egg-dodging.

Christmas is a bit overrated, too. It's not even when Jesus was born! He was born closer to Spring.

EDIT: I exaggerate a bit - I never got egged on Halloween, but I don't doubt for a second that some bad stuff went down that night. No doubt it's increased in years past.
