A provision in a new law that limits its application to people who are new to the system; people already in the system are exempt from the new regulation.

I'm not going to expect people I've known for years to write an essay on my site. That's just ridiculous.

Rule #1 is mostly an experimental rule, and as I clarified in the edit, it won't necessarily get a person banned if they don't follow it. But I'm getting tired of people showing up and immediately telling me how to do things or what I should and shouldn't say and they try to use the site against me as a weapon. Such as the recent, "You don't act like that on the site!!"

Uh, yeah, if that person had actually read anything on it, he'd know that I've written some very biting reviews, very harsh criticims of things I don't like, and retaliations against stupid internet people.

Other examples were hypershadwo complaining about us talking about old games and that time RandX pretended to be a new person and within his first few posts said, "How could you not like River City Ransom?" as though he'd never met someone who didn't.

If people have an understanding of what type of site they've arrived at, then they can avoid some of these problems (although some of these people are either so dumb or so intent on causing trouble that they'd probably do it, anyway, in which case this is a good way of weeding them out.)

Again, it won't necessarily result in banishment, but if someone starts asking dumb questions like those, I can always link them to the TOS topic and tell them to carefully review Rule #1.

One reason I don't feel it's an inappropriate requirement, though, is because of blogs. The only time someone posts on a blog is when they want to respond to something specifically in a blog article. I don't think it's unfair to expect the same for first-time users of this site, even though it's not a blog.

I used to do that back when the site was set up more like a blog. The reason I stopped was because I created a topic for the Top 50 Favorite Game Endings and while some people from Port Saiid did respond, everyone else around the internet decided to post it and respond to it on their own sites, which really pissed me off at the time. Now, in retrospect and considering the trouble we've had with problem users, I'm glad they didn't because most of them were so stupid I wouldn't want them here anyway. But it left me with thinking, "Gee fucking whiz, I guess there's no point in me creating a forum topic for article discussion if people don't use it."

I could try it again, though.

While it wouldn't hurt to capitalize more often, in all honesty, Rush, if I had a problem with you, I'd tell you. I'm certainly not going to ban anyone for an occasional misspelling, and I don't have any problems reading and understanding your posts.
