All throughout my time on the internet, I've gotten the distinct feeling in many cases that women feel threatened by other women on message boards. This place and maybe one other I can think of off the top of my head are about the only exceptions to this I know of. Every place else I've always gotten this feeling from at least one other female. (And even this place, in the past, has had people who have given me that impression.)

Has anyone else experienced this or am I just crazy?

I don't know if I've noticed it (for one thing, I'm not a woman), but do you think it might be related to women still being relatively uncommon on a lot of message boards? Maybe if a message board has only one woman, she develops an identity as THE woman of that board?

I'd answer, but I can't remember ever being part of an online community where there were two or more active females for more than a day or two. I suspect that you're onto something, though!

Well, here we have me, Codie, Sethra, DH, DB, Nixxy, and Minerva, and there was Kiera before she passed on. There might be a few others who pop in every now and then that I'm forgetting.

Yeah, this message board probably has the biggest concentration of women of the ones I've seen.

I used to visit Pokémasters, which was about 30-40% female (and is pretty big).

I just see it as an extension of real life female versus female competitiveness. I've always been guarded around other women, being decidedly non-girly myself.

There used to be some others like Morgannon, Tifa9, Shykid, and Camira.

I don't think Nixxy lashes out at other women because they're women. She just does that to everybody.

Morg, Tifa (along with her brother Bill), and Shykid all vanished without a trace. Camira is simply too busy with family and work to visit constantly.

I wasn't referring to Nixxy by my above statements.

I have been in situations on message boards in the past where another female member kept calling me a "whore", seemingly just for being a female on a message board, when that person (at least claimed she) was female, too.

i don't sense such a problem with murmurs.com 's "wetalk". but i can't estimate the percentage of women on those forums. too big and i'm bad with names. and those aren't gaming boards. they seem to be more divided over politics, taste in music, age, years they've been on murmurs, nationality and sex.

every time there's a big dramatic "discussion", it's more likely to be between a male and female, or 1 person of any sex against everyone.

The reason that happened was because I played a joke on the Game Pond once where I either gave FO administrator powers for real or maybe I just changed her custom user title to say "Administrator" and she made a post saying something like, "Look what it says under my name!" Someone else replied, "You hacked the board!!"

But even after I came right out and said I did that and it was just a prank, certain people still continued to attack FO for it. So, I don't know if it's because she was female because I am too and admitted I was the one who did it, yet they never really targeted me.

Anyway, I don't think I've ever really particularly acted hostile towards someone else based on gender. There may have been a few times I got so frustrated with some arguments that I said something like, "Men are stupid", but truthfully, women can act just as dumb.

Also, according to transsexual.org, 9 times out of 10, the resulting "vagina" is insensitive to sexual activity. Coupling that with the fact that I do not find men sexually attractive (ie: no anal for me, kthxbai) means that a transsexual operation is just not my cup of tea. Maybe when science can really alter genes to make me a real girl, perhaps. But most definitely not now. However maybe being half and half would be alright...

I don't want to name places by name, but really, it's not a "Game Pond" thing. Yes, there was some of it there, but I've seen it at a lot of other places, too. I think it's safe to say N-Sider was one of them and that shouldn't be any big secret after we had just talked about ESS earlier. (Although she was another example of someone who was hostile towards everyone and not just other females in particular.)

But it's not even just an N-Sider thing. I can think of at least three other places I've seen this happen that have no relation to the N-Sider or Game Pond, and in fact, the one place I can think of that has several female members (that I alluded to above) where I did NOT get this feeling from is populated by former N-Siders.
