I had to take a taxi to work today. That really pissed me off. It's only about a 10 minute walk at a slow to normal pace but it was really windy and the
rain was torrential. I would've had to change my shoes and my pants by the time I got there. I took all the cash I had handy (I'm a debit card kind of
guy) which was seven bucks. That ended up being the total. For six blocks. Needless to say, I wasn't able to tip. I felt bad at first, especially after I
realized I did have more cash at home. But it was kind of a ripoff and I've overtipped that cab company before I think.

I just applied for partial unemployment.

I don't even know what that is.

If you're still working but have been cut back enough, you can get unemployment checks that cover part of the lost wages. Well, in theory. I know other
people in the same company and situation as me have been approved.

I'm not really sure how unemployment in general works. Like, what limitations it has.

It's kind of a hard thing to figure out just from a google search or whatever. I had a relative who applied. They got a letter that scheduled a phone
interview to get all the necessary hours and wages information. After that, the checks started coming about a week later. I was hoping to be back to 35 to 40
hours in a few weeks but it looks like that may not happen now, so hopefully I can get something out of this. Otherwise, I guess I know where my 600 dollar
rebate check will be going.

From the mysterious letters I got today, I think I was approved for the unemployment benefits. I just have to report my wages for the time period listed on the
26th.

I'm working 2 to 10 on Easter, so we're going to have a turkey dinner on Monday instead and maybe have some candy and watch a movie Easter night. I
don't mind working the holiday since I requested Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday off. Same 32 hour week either way but it'll be nice to have a mini
vacation.
The worst thing about Easter will be the endless customer remarks trying to be funny and amounting to, "Working on Easter, huh? That sucks for you." It was so insanely busy today, it was near peak Summer sales with Winter staffing. The store, especially aisles that have anything edible, is trashed, like a tornado went through it. |

I brought a movie over for Easter, but I (and FO, she says) were the only ones paying any attention. My family is bizarre.
And I didn't even get to see my brother. |

Oh, I forgot the real reason I wanted to post here. I went to bed really early last night, so I slept a lot. That was awesome.

My first check is coming in a couple of days. It's a pretty significant amount of money. For the two weeks in question, it looks like I'm getting a
little over $100.00, so about $50.00 each. Those weeks were 30 hours and 32 hours (though it's actually calculated by how your wages compared to the
previous year's average)
Edit: Make that $82.00 per week, very nice. I probably won't get anything this week because of bonus pay I got for Easter.

hmmm... i'm late in applying for some nursing diploma sponsorship and bond thing. guess i spent too much time thinking about it, and how the stores gonna
be a mess without me,and one of the managers still badly wounded from a traffic accident. for last couple of months or so, i just feel guilty about applying
for any job at all, even though i hardly get any interviews out of the hundreds of jobs i've applied for over the last 3 years. well 2 years, if i exclude
the 1 year i was working in that absurd office job which hardly paid better than a retail job.
thing is, for all the crap i get in retail, my current coworkers are not bad at all, compared to worse shit(including the family) i've lived thru. the store manager/ the boss man doesn't talk thru his ass like most superiors i've worked directly under. he's just kinda old, absent minded, and probably should stay away from the cash register and the customers. i'm gonna go for some interview for a security guard job anyway. 1 month or so ago, i tried calling the previous security contractor i worked for, but couldn't get through. then i thought "damn, even if they take me back, and send me for that new silly compulsory certification thing, they might send me out to another bigass mall where i have to patrol like 3 kilometres a day". too much of a workout for skinny guy with fractures on both his shins and maybe more, but i don't wanna find out if the doc's just gonna shrug it off and recommend that i excercise more and take painkillers which give me gas. "see the stars that shine above"- never let me down again | depeche mode.

I've just been told that the DS I shipped by priority mail on April 3rd hasn't arrived yet, so I'm a bit concerned about that. Fortunately, I did
insure it, but I've never had something get lost before, so I don't know what the process is for dealing with it. Maybe it'll still show up in the
next couple of days, somehow.

That DS did get there the next day, thank God. I think I'm going to make insurance and delivery confirmation mandatory from now on.
We went on another zoo trip today. The weather was absolutely amazing and we were smart and brought binoculars. That made a big difference. I was feeling kind of down so it was nice to get some fresh air and do something. We had lunch there and the food was surprisingly good. The burger and fries were better than any of the fast food places around here. When we got food at the aquarium that one time it was worse than school cafeteria food. The car ran great and I'm noticing the improved gas mileage. |

the security course ain't so bad. just a hell lot of stuff to memorise in just 4 days. wished i had taken the earlier version of this test, which is just a bunch of MCQs. i hope to pass the 2 tests on the 1st attempt(otherwise i don't get a refund for the assessment cost). would be very embarassing if the mother of 3 beats me in this test.

We went to the park yesterday, and had some fun, and did two walks. But we had some annoying things happen, too.
First, after eating lunch, we tried flying our kites, but the string on both of our kites broke simultaneously. The one I was using had the break in the middle, and when I tried tying it in a knot, I think that just made it difficult to get the rope off the spool when launching without it tangling. I had a huge freakin' tangled mess, and it took FO and I forever to untangle it. And at dinner time, we brought some stuff for a cook out, but we could not light the fucking coals! Under good conditions, I think you can just drop a match on the coals, and they'll flare up (these are supposed to be "easy lighting coals - no lighter fluid needed). That didn't work. We put paper towels in there, and lit those on fire, and that didn't set the coals alight (maybe one problem is that paper towels don't burn as strongly as paper, which we didn't have). We tried other stuff. We didn't have any lighter fluid, and we only had matches. We eventually ran out of matches, and had to pack up the coals. We didn't use them, so I guess we can use them later. |

isn't coal like slightly more flammable charcoal, which is "flammable" enough for putting out fires in an emergency..

ok. 3rd time my almost senile pa bought a bottle of liquid detergent(sp?), with a bottle opening that's prone to spilling from the side when i pour the
stuff out. i'm gonna go shout/nag at him when he wakes up again. i didn't whine about it the 2nd time. if i have to keep getting bugged by less than
sensible behaviour from my parents, i swear they're gonna outlive me. ok, he buys another crappy bottle, i'm going back to good ol' powdered suds.
--- ok. fuck the samsung media studio prog which came with my mp3 player. its online elements seem to stop me from saving the username & password my internet connection. re-typing them on connecting doens't seem to work either. which means the damn thing is stopped me from connecting to the internet. nutz. screw their flunky playlist editor. i'll do without them.

FO and I had a wonderful day! We went to the big park in the woods. We had a picnic lunch, did the 2.7 mile lake trail. That was a trail that we did a
couple of Fridays ago, but we started too late and didn't get back to our car until a bit after sundown, and a ranger was waiting for us and followed us
out of the park. Not only that, but the first half of the trail had a lot of mud pits we had to find our way around our through.
The same was true today, but at least we didn't have to walk at night. A couple of times we went way off the trail to get around the mud, and a few times we had to use logs in the mud as balance beams to get across. Other than that, though, since we didn't have to walk in the dark after the park was closed, I hoped I could get my "revenge" on the trail by showing it wasn't all that difficult, but then I had to use the bathroom. Then we watched the birds, and we saw a rose-breasted grosbeak. Then we did a 1.7 mile trail. We started another trail, but one part was so flooded that we lost track of the trail completely and couldn't go around. So, we just turned back. Then we had a cook out. I made chicken legs. Those are *SO* much better on the grill than in the oven. Not to brag, but I think they were cooked perfectly. Succulent, cooked consistently, but not overdone at all. We did a 0.6 mile walk around a lake, and then a 1 mile walk around another lake. Altogether, I guess we did about 6.6 miles today. |

I think I have a kidney stone.
I woke up around 5 this morning with this terrible pain in my side. Thinking it was just gas, I took some Pepto Bismal, but threw it up. I took some ibuprofen, and threw it up. I described the pain to my mother, and she thought it sounded like a kidney stone, and my dad's had, like, 12. Plus, the pain's moved more towards my back now, and my mom said that's the kidney area. |
|||
Crawl and 1OOO |

Aren't you young to get a kidney stone? But if your dad got 12 maybe there's a genetic risk factor. Wikipedia claims 10% of adults get one. So, if
it was just random chance, the odds of someone getting 12 would be 1 in a trillion.
See how your opinion ruined Christmas for everyone!

My mom took me to the hospital, and I was in agony. But after they had me do a urine test, the pain went away almost immediately. Maybe I flushed it out, or
moved it somewhere more spacious. They still prescribed some vicoden in case it comes back.
Before I went I ate a few Wheat Thins, thinking maybe the reason I was throwing everything else up was because I needed some kind of solid food. Well, I kept them down, then later I was able to keep the bottle of water they gave me down. |

Feel like an idiot. Power just went out and I was totally unprepared. No flashlights or candles ready, and it was pitch black. I could've given up and just
gone to bed I suppose, but I eventually found some supplies. And then the power came back on, of course.
The streets are REALLY flooded and I hear occasional sirens. I wonder if my boss will be able to get here to open the store. Tide should be going out by then. I'd prefer not to get a call at 7AM saying I have to go in. |

Dude, the water. I have never seen such flooding up close and personal. I had to walk through a waist-deep area just to get to work. All of the morning shift
people who had driven in were trapped on the island until a couple hours ago. It was worse than anyone was expecting. I think all but one bridge out was
completely closed and the vast majority of the city was impossible to travel through. I had about four customers my entire shift.

I cleaned inside my computer with compressed air. Embarrassing to say, but I've never bothered to get the dust out of any of them before. It wasn't as
bad as any of the older systems I've opened up, but it was getting into dangerous territory, I think.
