FO, when I come back, do you think you'd be able to pick up me and one of my co-workers from the airport? It'll be sort of late Friday night (maybe around 10 PM), so it shouldn't interfere with your work.

I got Stephen King's Blaze at a little Borders at the Detroit airport, and read the whole thing, about 360 pages, during the flight (even with taking some breaks to just listen to my MP3 player). It moved along okay, but he started the book with a forward about how, when he was younger (the original draft was from the '70's), he though the story was so relentlessly depressing that it was actually funny (he presumably either changed his mind or the story). I thought a lot of the depressing stuff was believable, but two things really went over the top. Also, it doesn't seem like the story has much of a point, unless it's just to be a tear-jerker. As far as that goes, it's not as effective as The Rocking Horse Winner; I didn't have an emotional reaction to the story.

Good to see you're keeping yourself entertained.

Well, I got my work shoes. That was the first time I've ever really been "downtown" as opposed to just driving through it. I also stopped and got groceries on the way home. I basically only picked up some essentials, although I did get another art drawing pad and some more mechanical pencils, too.

My Billy Joel CDs came today.

Well, Spaghetti Warehouse and the science museum are downtown. We even walked to the science museum, so you could have taken in a bit of downtown then.

I think I'll use mechanical pencils for drawing any more guitar stuff. I first used a half-pencil -- a pencil you sharpen, then use a power sander to take half off, leaving a straight edge you can perfectly put against a ruler, with no offset. Well, that's the theory. I'm not sure it's really any better than just using a mechanical pencil.

I grew up in that suburb, and I still have never done anything downtown there.

I didn't stay very long. Just long enough to get my work shoes from the Red Wing shoe store. The guy running the store was the first to mistake my birthmark for a head injury in a long time.

Anyway, the conference doesn't start until tomorrow, so we had nothing particular to do today. We went to La Jolla, which at least was pretty. I took off my shoes and socks and waded into the water. The interesting thing about that place is that it has a lot of rocks, which I guess are just like compacted sand. They are eroded away by the water to make really weird and interesting shapes. I saw a few live crabs, as well as a few crushed ones.

We went to another beach, but by then I was so tired and bored. We, as a group, are really indecisive, and we only went to that beach because the person who was driving wanted to. To think we could have gone to the San Diego zoo today instead!

I think they're planning on going out to eat later, but forget that! I don't want to wait until they're ready (we didn't even eat breakfast until 11, local time, because they were so slow getting around), and I'm tired and okay with resting in my room. So, I just ordered out.

I'm already bored and lonesome for FO.

By the way, did you get the car? You really need to get it this weekend, because when I heard you decided to pick it up, I didn't get a parking permit for it yet. I think it'll be okay before Monday, but not after.

I didn't get to sleep until after 2 am last night because I just had a hard time falling asleep without you here. For most of the day today I was feeling pretty tired. After I got my shoes and groceries, I came home and napped a bit. Woke up, and still felt like crap. So I took a shower and that rejuvenated me. I've been working on those Honen/Honen sketches all night. I have most of the ones that were already started on finished now.

By the end of the night, I think will post what I have so far to the site and just release this sketch in pieces, webcomic style.

As a place to visit, at least, I think San Fransisco is more convenient than San Diego. I had so many places within walking distance of our hotel. I could go to tons of restaurants, catch a movie, look at comic books (I didn't find a real book store, though), do some shopping. Here, you have to drive everywhere.

I do admit it looks pretty. We stopped at Target earlier today, and I first thought I might finally get a digital camera, but I would only be willing to buy a really cheap one, and the cheapest they had were nowhere near as cheap as the cheapest I've seen. So, I skipped it.

I might be able to take some low res, crappy webcamera pics, at least around the motel, though.
