I finished up Hardcase and man alive, the issues after the Godwheel were bloody BORING, with a flavor of Inane Orange in the middle. It's all just talking and talking and talking and TALKING, broken up by this moment of total retardation when Hardcase gets the Time Infinity Gem and goes back in time to stop his teammates from dying, only to find out they died anyway and Choice is somebody else, except there's actually two Choices running around now and Loki (from Marvel) gets the Infinity Gem in the end and who knows what else is fucked up. The final issue is particularly retarded. It's just Rex Mundi vomiting his life story, Metal Gear Solid-style, for the first 3/4 of the book, then the most bloody retarded wrap-up where Hardcase uses time travel to undo saving the Squad and then warping back to Mundi's lair and punches him as Regina comes in wearing NM-E and kicks Hardcase out while she fights with Rex, and concluding with Loki laughing about how he has all the Infinity Gems now.

They never even addressed what Rex Mundi meant when he said he first met Hardcase during World War I, and Hardcase is not a WWI veteran.

I still like Hardcase himself, but what his creator(s) did with him was shit and it's no wonder several other Ultraverse characters like Prime got bigger fanbases.

I'll read Mantra next.

Okay, there's an afterword in the back of Hardcase 26 where Hudnall explains he's aware of the two plotholes, but Hardcase got put on indefinite hold (i.e. it got shut down). The first, the World War I thing, is addressed in a Solution book. The other, some guy who looks like M. Bison in black who calls himself Hardcase's son, I had forgotten about because he appeared only so briefly, and I guess he never got the chance to explain what that was about.

I spent much of my night getting sale signs ready for the store tomorrow. For no pay. Again.

I did put in some time with GTA. Couple of moderately interesting missions but nothing real special. To steal some files, I got to dress up to go for a job interview at a law firm, then kill the interviewer. That gave me a 3 star wanted level so I stole the only car available, which was a cop car, and tried to get away. Eventually I switched vehicles, planning to go to the Pay N Spray, which doesn't work with a police car. I had to cross a bridge, which was barricaded, and I smashed through it. There were vehicles lined up across the center of the bridge itself and defying the laws of reality, I kind of drove through and under one of them (which had to be MUCH heavier than the car I was driving). Eventually, I made it in there, and despite being followed by a helicopter and a thousand police cars, getting a new paint job was enough to fool everybody.

There was one where Nico has to pretend to be a gay guy on this online dating site and lure his target to a diner. You can attack whenever you feel like it, so I listened to the guy talk until it got annoying, then calmly stood up, pulled a shotgun from my giant invisible arsenal, blasted the guy, and walked out.

One mission had you pick one of two main characters to kill, who both hired you to kill the other guy.

Anyway, I think I'm around 13 hours of play and 25% completion. The main storyline makes up a relatively small percentage of the game, I think. 60% is what I'm thinking but that could be too high.

Mantra's off to a good start.

The story of Mantra is that there's this guy named Lukasz who's served another guy named Archmage for 1,500 years in his war against... *sigh* Boneyard, and every time Lukasz and his friends get killed Archmage reincarnates them into another body. The problem is he's put in a full-grown man's body, and kicks out the resident soul when he does it. But Archmage is captured and Lukasz is killed, leaving Lukasz to wonder if this death is final. But Archmage is able to reinarnate him one more time, this time in Eden Blake, a woman's body, which leads to some amusing moments like when he's trying to put on make-up. Eden has some latent magic power which Lukasz is doing his best to dig up.

Then there's Warstrike who, despite how menacing he looks on the cover of #1, actually seems like a big, blonde, muscly, gun-toting teddy bear.

I saved Last Legs (the Grubb capital) in Stranger's Wrath, and I'm to some kind of gate I have to unlock. I'm not sure if it's the entrance to Sekto's dam which I imagined being a lot more spectacular, or just some security barrier.

Man, these boat parts suck.

I decided to try a little bit of the PC version of GTA San Andreas.

I have a decent enough system and this game looks absolutely stunning compared to how it was on PS2.

I maxed out the draw distance and the detail levels, and turned up the anti-aliasing a bit. While the game is technologically inferior, the boost from running it on a newer system and the general style make it very pleasant to look at. In some ways, it looks better than GTA4 due to the questionable lighting and coloring in the newest one.

It works pretty well with my Logitech controller but I need to do some fine tuning. The main gameplay thing that stands out as being worse than GTA 4 is that the cars feel very insubstantial in terms of handling and look almost too big for the roads.

Bob Seger - Live Bullet is a fucking awesome album.

I also listened to Seether - Karma & Effect. A little "emo", but I really am starting to like this band a lot. I wonder if I should get their new album. I've heard "Rise Above This" on the radio and I did like it. (That song seems to reference a line in one of the songs on "Karma & Effect").

Last night I listened to Billy Joel - The Bridge. It's pretty much as I remembered it from owning it on cassette years ago. It's a good album, but kind of "hit and miss" for me. I really like "Running On Ice", "This is the Time", "Code of Silence", "A Matter of Trust", "Big Man on Mulberry Street", and "Modern Woman", but the others I'm not as fond of. It's kind of neat having Ray Charles on "Baby Grand", but I've never really been a huge fan of his music.

What I've heard of Seether struck me as being "generic alternative" (unfortunately, a lot of music that has "evolved" from styles I liked in the '90's seems this way to me), but maybe I'll give them more of a chance.

I haven't listened to too much new music lately, but FO got me Thriller for my birthday. I don't think I ever heard the album version of the title track, just the video version...

I think Seether's melodies and lyrics stand out a little more to me than many other "generic" modern rock bands I've heard. They are kind of like Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Soundgarden in a blender.

I beat Stranger's Wrath.

The thing I made it to in my previous post was Sekto's dam, and I stormed it while the Grubbs bombed it with their catapults. It was pretty tense, especially this one part where you have three minutes to race through. You can't fight everyone along the way, you have to run past everyone and everything. I got through with one minute to spare, and that definitely wouldn't have been time to fight everyone there.

The final boss was a puss : ( His squid pet things before him were much harder because they fucking Lodoss War you. I guess you can't get knocked out by one of the attacks if your in FPS mode, but they can slap you with this green goo that binds you and you have to break out. The final boss... at first it's not clear where you're supposed to hit him, but it won't take you long to figure it out and once you do you'll have already figured out how to dodge his laser. And then that's it.

The ending started out "BLOODY AWESOME!" then went to "...uh..." and then finally "...oh, you have got to be SHITTING me..." Highlight for spoilers: The Stranger drags Sekto's corpse to a hole in the dam, lifts it over his head, and lets out a victory roar. The Grubbs get the message, and start cheering. Then the dam starts crumbling, collapses, and for a second we think the Stranger died. Some text appears about not defying water, which is some Grubb saying. Then we're taken to some Clakker village that's been submerged by the water that broke from the dam, and the Grubbs are fishing from the waters. Then we got back to Sekto's dam, and find the Stranger survived. He notices a pair of hooves sticking out of one of Sekto's pant legs, and we find out Sekto was a Steef that got horribly burned and his horns whacked off. He asks the Stranger "Is the water free?" The Stranger affirms. Then Sekto keeps repeating "free... free... free..." until he dies, and the Stranger closes Sekto's eyes with his fingers and the Grubbs close in. Then it pans to a squid looking out of the water at that party, then diving down and swimming off into a freaking gorgeous image of a wintery canyon, and some more text appears, this time about our paths in life said by some real-life Native American. And then the title screen appears.

Here's my main question: If Sekto was a Steef, why the fuck was he slaughtering them??? Was he driven mad whenever he got deformed?

I'm getting a bit tired of GTA 4 so I worked on Mario Kart Wii instead. I finished the 50cc class and surprisingly, got the ending credits. I guess Nintendo must have low expectations for it's new generation of gamers. I'm almost halfway through 100cc now. This game has too many Bowser's Castle tracks.

Well, anyway, to continue the previous thought, yeah, the two versions of the song are pretty different. Billie Jean seems to be the same song, but I heard more elements (some sort of synth thing) when I could hear it through headphones.

We got How the West Was Won, and it's got a lot of jamming. I think Jimmy Page's guitar playing is even more at the forefront here than it is on their studio albums.

I finally got around to clearing out Quagmire in Equinox.

Am I playing a different version of this game from FO's? Because I can throw two Swords at once, not that it makes the thing any more helpful since it moves so slow if you miss twice you have to wait for one of them to hit a wall before you can another one. Also, the scan of FO's manual says Spinning Devils are invincible when spinning, but I can hurt and have even killed them when they're spinning.

I don't know if FO knows this, but Blobs can only move on the same plane as Glendaal - northeast, northwest, etc. So, if you're standing north, east, etc. of them, they can't get to you, which I find to be a good way to deal with them.

Then I warped to Afralona, then warped back to see the glitch with the game dumping me in the ocean... and I got back to Galadonia fine. I tried it again, and still got back. Hm.

EDIT: Okay, FO's scan of the manual says you can throw two Swords, but it also says it's very fast, and I will agree with FO that it is not.

I probably just forgot you could throw two swords at once. It's so slow, it doesn't really matter.

Blobs definitely are not invincible when spinning. Just more annoying.

Listened to Bob Geldof: Deep in the Heart of Nowhere.

It's a really good album, too. It's funny how I think "Love Like a Rocket" might've been the only hit from that one as I heard Bob Geldof isn't that popular in America, but I really liked a lot of it. "August Was a Heavy Month" is pretty close to being my favorite song on that.

Now listening to Foo Fighters: Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace... I've heard "The Pretender" and "Long Road to Ruin" on the radio, both of which I like.

Yeah, I definitely can see that the Foo Fighters are better than Seether. They have way more versatility in styles. At least as far as comparing ESP&G to Karma & Effect goes, I haven't heard Seether's new album yet save for one song.

I had a really bad headache this afternoon. I was able to buy a single pack of asprin, so I took that, sat down, closed my eyes, and listened to my MP3 player. I thought I listened to all of Thriller, but I either have the file order screwed up on my player, or I fell asleep, because it seems like I missed the middle of the album.

I'm to the Ghost Ship and there's this one puzzle that's pissing me off.

You have to catch a block, ride a lift, slide the block, then push it onto a ghost, then jump on the block on the ghost, then the platform with the token on it. This is infuriating me because I can't figure out where the ghost or the platform with the token on it are.

So, I went to Equinoxfan's video and as it turns out you're not supposed to push it onto the ghost. Fucking fuckity fuck...
