Legend of Mana definitely counts as one of the worst sequels I've ever played.

Zelda: The Wand of Gamelon! Whoever designed that game was either drunk, paralytic, Lucifer or the artist formally known as Prince. (I'm guessing all 4).
Maybe I'm being too harsh; I cannot possibly refute the maturity of its artwork!

Guardian Heroes Advance didn't feel much at all like Guardian Heroes for Saturn.

Phantasy Star III was a great way to illustrate how to flush a game's potential down the toilet. I love the premise of the game but hate the execution.
Hugues Johnson is working
on an editor for the game. That could prove interesting. The other downer sequels aren't really "the worst" but moreso just disappointing.
ActRaiser 2: no simulation mode and some jumps were unncessarily difficult. The soundtrack is also weaker. Twisted Metal 3 & 4: didn't jive well with 1 & 2. Gameplay was not as intuitive or entertaining as 2. Weaker soundtrack that leaned too heavily on commerical music. Twisted Metal Black: better then 3 & 4 but still needed polish. Some of the stories felt forced and cliched just make the game seem more edgy. Minion, the midboss, was made too hard and the final boss was too easy. Shining Force CD: was a port from the game gear version and looked the part. I hate the kiddy graphics that make pegasus knights look fat and lazy compared to their Shining Force 1 counterparts that were sleek and menacing. Gameplay was alright but no exploration mode made it feel too forced. There was no real incentive to carrying over your saved file to the third book unless you powerleveled a few toons. Character balance was rather poor. A few toons were too powerful and some far too weak. Overall issues that could have been addressed with the port were ignored. At least with Shining Force 2 and on they fixed some of the glaring AI problems that plague the first game. I'm looking at you Mr. High Priest who casts Heal 4 to cure 5 hit points of damage.

"Nevertheless, a rule is a rule. We can't go about making exceptions to these rules just because they're stupid. We can't even use a case-by-case basis to see if the intent of the (stupid) rule doesn't apply to this particular book. No, no, a thousand times no! We must have iron-clad, meaningless rules, and we must follow them to the letter!!! Otherwise, anarchy will result." --Dadof3, Snopes messageboard --Well of course anarchy will result! Heh. I'm one of the few people who actually likes ActRaiser 2. I thought the first one was short, easy and forgettable. I liked some of the graphics and
music, the sim modes were fun but not very deep, and the stages went in one ear and out the other. But ActRaiser 2 was actually pretty challenging and I
thought it even had better graphics (though I don't remember the music as much.) I based the background of my site on the first level.

I liked ActRaiser 2 to a certain extent, but I quit playing it after awhile because the game is just so slow and it's difficult to use the magic. I suppose
they wanted a magic system that would be more akin to doing special moves in a fighting game rather than having a menu select so there'd be no breaks in
the action, but they really needed to rethink that system a little. I also found it easy to beat much of the game without actually using magic but there are
parts where it seems impossible to get past if you don't. Not to mention...boss rehash in final stage was really annoying and not something to look forward
to.
Yoshi's Story is an obvious choice, but yes that was a travesty for so many reasons. There was a lot of excitement for it after the brilliance of Yoshi's Island, it killed 2D on the N64, etc. Ninja Gaiden 3 also disappointed me. |

I totally agree about Might & Magic 3 - I'd go so far to say that it's a strong contender for the worst game I've played, not just the worst
sequel.
Caution children! Happy ice cream dancing for you!

Yoshi's Island DS. It lacked the level design and polish of the original. I also hated the baby switching and lack of vehicles.
