Or maybe he is. Who knows? I still don't think it's a criticism. I guess the idea is that people think that in our society, you're supposed to be productive or something to make money. You're not supposed to sit on the street and beg, according to some people, and maybe asking for donations for a webcomic that doesn't update is seen as tantamount to that.
But, actually, the *only* goal is to make money. If you can do it by being productive, like some people think, then do it by being productive. BUT if you can make money any other way, then that's okay, too, within our Capitalist system. No one ever says that they're being paid too much for what they're producing. How many professional athletes complain that they're getting paid too much? How many people refuse inheritances? The 2nd richest man in the world, Warren Buffett, got to that position not by "producing" anything in a normal sense, but by playing economic games.
I guess it offends our sense of justice to see something bad succeed financially, when things that are good fail financially. But our society ISN'T necessarily just, as much as some people would like to think it is. This is a much bigger issue than webcomics accepting donations.
