I coincidentally tried a ROM of Arkanoid recently, and died countless times just trying to get out of level 1. I don't know if that's because the game is meant to be played with that paddle controller and really is just about unplayable with a normal controller, or if I just need more practice.

I doubt a human would be able to play the game like in that video. One thing that *really* would just have to be impossible would be the moment when he lets the ball fall off screen, but shoots the last block with the laser just before he dies.

I knew about the Easter Island head from Doh it Again, but I didn't know how it was in the original game.

Has anyone ever heard of the "many worlds" interpretation of Quantum Mechanics, or "quantum immortality"?

The idea behind quantum mechanics, as opposed to mechanics as studied by Isaac Newton, is that you can't predict what an object (like an electron or an atom) will do.� You can only predict the PROBABILITY of it doing a certain thing.

If it has so many options available to it, how does it pick which one it really does?� No one knows.� One idea, though, is that if, for example, an electron can go in one of two ways, it will go BOTH ways.� But since that's impossible, the entire universe splits.� In one universe, the electron went one way.� In another universe, the electron went another.

Since this happens every single time any event could happen, the universe has split into countless parallel universes.

For quantum immortality, suppose you shoot yourself in the head.� There's a chance you'll die, or a chance you'll survive.� Since there's a chance, the universe will split in two!� If you die, you won't know anything about that universe -- you're dead.� But in the other universe, you'll keep living.�

For every chance you have to die -- heart attack, choking, old age, car crash -- you have a chance of surviving.� And you WILL survive, because you only know about the universe where you beat the odds and survived.� Taken to the limit, there's some weird parallel universe in which you, and only you, live forever, no matter what crazy shit happens to you.


Anyway, that's just a long lead in to this Youtube video.� Someone made fan stages for Super Mario World which are supposed to be very difficult.� People tend to beat them with save states.� When they play back a video of them, you only see the video that had a perfect play -- the world in which Mario achieved quantum immortality.�

Yeah, there's some movie about that, but I don't remember what it was. Don't believe in the theory myself.

Well, I don't know if it's really something to "believe" in. It's not something that could be tested. It's really just a way of mentally illustrating an aspect of quantum mechanics that some people have difficulty wrapping their heads around.

An alternative way of looking at quantum mechanics is to say that what happens happens randomly, but the thing that's so weird about that is that quantum mechanics is the ONLY thing that is truly random. Throwing dice is too complicated to easily predict, so it seems random, but it really isn't. That's the way just about everything that seems random (random number generators in computers, thermal noise in electronics) is. So, that's why people wanted to have an explanation for quantum mechanics that didn't involve things being random.

I don't know, but it's possible that instead of just adding a **** over the word, they removed the original and added a f**k.
