If that's true, all the more reason to put out lots of VC games to fill the void.

Well, obviously, Nintendo's strategy is not to release a bunch of videogames all at once, or they could have released over a hundred, maybe over a
thousand, at launch. They must think that by spacing them out, there's more excitement: It gets people (like you) to check the release schedule every
week. By only having a few games released a week, those few games are like a recommendation for people that plan to buy something that week. (Having hundreds
of recommendations has the funny effect of making a person not want to follow ANY recommendation)
Whether or not that strategy would be better than releasing a lot of games at once, we can think of a lot of reasons why Nintendo might want to follow that strategy. And since kids are school now, buckling down again after winter break, they'll be spending less time with their games. No sense wasting releases that will go under everyone's radar. |

And by the way, it's EXACTLY analogous with movies. It's not like there aren't movies available at any time to be released. (Well, ignoring the
writer's strike). But movie studios don't just release movies as soon as possible. They know, through experience, that some times are better than
others, and they plan their strategies accordingly.
You might very naively think that the earlier a movie would be released, the better, because it could start earning money the instant it's released, but it certainly won't earn any until its released. But they know that that is not the case, and movies released at certain times tend to just wither and disappear, and in that case, the head start does no good. This is all based on experience. |

I could be wrong, I'd have to check the earlier posts, but I think this is the first time they've consistently been releasing less than 3 games per
week since the Wii was released. I don't think they should be releasing 10 per week or anything like that because you'd quickly lose track of
what's going on, but a little variety in genres and price is nice.

Based on your posts, one week last January saw the release of only Urban Champion and Baseball. Another saw the release of only A Link to the Past. The
remaining two weeks had three games released each.
That's 9 games in January, 2007, compared to 7 games in January, 2008. Not a big difference. And January 2007 was when the Virtual Console was new and needed an initial library! |

In their defense, 1080 is one of Nintendo's more popular 64 games (even if I think it's a pile of crap).
Still, I would think that this would be a prime time to release a smaller, possibly less-liked game to establish some sort of theme. Like, had it not been released earlier, Ice Hockey. |
|||
Crawl and 1OOO |

Actually, I was thinking what you seemed to be hinting at until you reversed it at the end: This is probably the time to release single big-name games. They
released 1080 this year, which, as you said, is supposed to be kind of popular, and last year they released ALttP at the same time, which is definitely a
marquee title.
The reason I think this makes sense is -The few people who will buy something every week will buy those games. -The other people who will buy something later (like when schools out) won't forget about such big games, and can buy them then. But for themes, maybe it'd be fun! Has Blades of Steel been released yet? |

Operation Wolf (NES), Columns III: Revenge of Columns (Genesis).
Oh... goody, more Columns, can never have too much of that. |

Harvest Moon (SNES), Lords of Thunder (TG16 CD)

I didn't think about it until now, but Harvest Moon is a really good release for Valentine's Day. Half the game revolves around dating and getting
married.

isn't lords of thunder that band which was in the movie "airheads"?

I don't know, but I do know the cover of the Sega CD version looks like something you'd see on a Barbarian rock album:

You can do worse than Psychosis (say, Gate of Thunder), but you can do a hell of a lot better, too.

Wasn't Psychosis originally a PC or Amiga game or something?

Not according to Wikipedia. Its Japanese name is Paranoia if that's of any help.

Maybe you're thinking of Psygnosis, the company that made/published the Shadow of the Beast trilogy, Menace, Awesome, and Lemmings. They specialized in the
Amiga, but some stuff was so popular it got ported to other computers and consoles (Shadow of the Beast 1 and 2, Lemmings got ported to everything)

A couple of imports this week:
DoReMi Fantasy: Milon's DokiDoki Adventure (SNES), Puyo Puyo 2: Tsuu (Genesis) I'm a tiny bit surprised that they didn't localize the titles. |
|||
Crawl and 1OOO |

I didn't know there was a sequel to Milon's Secret Castle.
Puyo Puyo pretty much is Puyo Puyo. Kirby's Avalanche and Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine were Puyo Puyo games, but in their cases, localization was obviously more than just a matter of changing the title. |

Wonder Boy (Master System) and Cruis'n USA (N64)
Virtual Boy is coming soon, oddly enough, and you can use those cheap 3D glasses on those games. |
|||
Bomberguy221 |
|||
|
Well, I have to admit that it would be a shame to lose those games, considering they were supposed to be "system sellers" and historical enough that
I still hear one or two mentioned to this day. Maybe they'll be more enjoyable on a more playable system?
Cruis'n USA wasn't that bad of a game. Not great by any stretch of the imagination, but not horrible. The controls were passable, the realism of the tracks was non-existant (driving through the Grand Canyon and ending up in front of Mt. Rushmore), and the females amongst us might not care for the trophy girl and bikini-clad women everywhere, but there are certainly worse games out there. Diddy Kong Racing immediately springs to mind. The game also holds the distinction of being the only place where crashing head-on into a school bus holds minor consequences. |

I don't think VB games would work on a flatscreen. Has to be a joke unless they're completely remaking the games but what would be the point if they
lose the 3D?
