That one's kind of "iffy", too. I know it's most likely in reference to the goddess, but the line goes, "I'm your Venus, I'm your fire, at your desire", and Venus is a hot planet, so I think it could go either way.

the hanging garden was a world wonder, but it's destroyed and doesn't exist anymore. if fictitious place are acceptable, why not places of legend?

If the song was about the hanging gardens of Babylon, it counts. The lyrics are so vague, though, that I don't know if that's what it's really about, or some nonspecific hanging garden.

But maybe it gets in anyway through the Rio and Panama examples.

**Note: Crawl felt I was cheating by naming this because I could have sworn I heard a song once called "Casablanca", and he Googled it and found a number of songs with this title, and Crawl felt I shouldn't just guess song titles and Google them to see if they're real. But when he mentioned there was one by David Hasselhoff, I had a vague feeling that that was the one I heard before because I once knew someone who had both really terrible taste in music and an obsession with Knight Rider and owned one of his albums, and I think this might have been on it. I know I remember hearing a song about Casablanca years ago and if it wasn't his, then it had to be one of the others, but I'm going with this one for now.

And, Sethra, thanks for "Off Topic Shnoo". That was a wonderful thing to come home from work to.

Small Town is a grey area. It sounds like Mellencamp is praising small towns in general because he grew up in one. And it doesn't sound like "Small Town" is the actual name of his hometown.

Yes, but I think my original intention was to name song titles that mention very specific places - the name of a place, whether real or fictitious. I'll count nicknames so long as the nickname is distinct to that one particular place. Otherwise, we're opening up a can of worms and things like Ozzy Osbourne's "Mama, I'm Coming Home" could count.

On an unrelated note, didn't the "Got Shnoo?" in Sethra's signature used to be underneath of the Fatshnoo? Now it's coming out of her beak...

I'm finding this more fascinating at the moment. An hour after I made that post, it was back at the bottom of the Shnoo. Now it's in the middle of the Shnoo...
