I guess everyone else did too, because Nintendo put a warning about that on their site and made sure all the other Mario Parties didn't have spin-the-control-stick games (which is great, because they're shit)

I used to mess up my hand really bad with Mario Party. Several games required you to spin the control stick around, and I would always use the palm of my hand.

Panasonic is making a Wii-proof TV.
I'm not denying that some people are dumb, but sometimes I think it is just an honest mistake. If you're simulating playing a baseball game and you've played real baseball before, it's probably a natural reflex by now to let go of the object in your hand at some point. Something with that shape and with smooth edges can also easily slip if your hands get sweaty. |

I heard about Panasonic making a Wii-Proof TV on the radio about a week ago. I don't know whether or not to be surprised if they actually go through with
it. Even if there are a lot of people who own Wiis, how many are going to buy a whole new TV?

Well, maybe another use would be protecting your TV from stray gunfire when people find out you have a Wii.

but sometimes I think it is just an honest mistake.Sorry, I still have no sympathy for anyone who causes physical or property damage playing the Wii. Every game has a warning about using the strap when you turn it on and to be careful with your movements. Now personally, I don't use the strap the majority of the time. I don't think anyone who's used a game controller before would really need to. I haven't played them all by any means, but I've not seen any Wii game yet where you'd ever use enough motion to send the remote flying into your TV or flying anywhere at all. If I had a big screen TV that cost thousands of dollars, I'd probably consider it just to be on the safe side. On another subject, a lot of Xbox 360 games are designed with HDTV's in mind and so the text can be nearly unreadable on a standard set. Many developers keep us cavemen in mind and make the text large enough. But whenever there's a complaint about a game that doesn't, there's part of the gaming population who comes back with lines like this: "If you could afford a 360, you could afford an HDTV. It's stupid to have one without the other, and so you're stupid for complaining about this." That just infuriates me. |

You know what's even better? People (they must be practically mummies) who are pissed that the best Blu-Ray player is a PS3. There are actually people
who don't want to have a game system in with their other hi-fi equipment, or even in their house. They actually would be willing to pay more for a Blu-Ray
player that had LESS features than a PS3, just to avoid having something that could theoretically play a videogame.

Maybe they just hate Sony THAT much? And how could a Blu-Ray with less features be even more expensive? The PS3 is pretty darn expensive as it is.

They are people that are too old to give a shit about Nintendo vs. Sony. They don't want videogames in their house, period.
Of course, there are a few HD-DVD fanboys who hate Sony, too.

When you have a house full of kids, it's just something I can imagine happening regardless of precautions. And I'm not the type of person who's
going to scream at a kid and call him stupid because he slips and makes a mistake.
*sigh* I guess I'm just the kind of parent who believes that videogames are okay, even good in moderation. But who am I to tell others how to raise their kids? |

"When you're older..." or something that assumes this person on the internet knows something about this other person on the internet through
their words, even though they've never met.
It's really stupid. Oddly, I have never had someone use "When you're older..." on me in real life, even when I was talking to someone who actually was older.

Yes you did.
Crawl and 1OOO wrote: If that's in response to me... I think you're taking that criticism too literally. You can be "young" mentally regardless of your actual age. That's why I had Honen tell 95 Honen, "In time you will understand", as opposed to "When you're older, you'll understand". And as for mobiusclimber...Gimme a break! When someone has the grammar and arguing skills of an 8-year-old and uses an avatar of a masticating baby, it's almost impossible to not make the mental association.

it would be great if people take that from me and misappropriate it. That's one of the problems with the internet - the people who the criticism is applied
to will never ever see it within themselves. Instead, they'll just try to take the argument and turn it around for their own benefit. That's what the
"Delayed Copycat Response" is all about.

I've seen it at other boards YEARS ago. I think one person who pulled it on me, as though as I was a teenager, eventually turned out to be about 3 years
older than me.
The difference in the Honen case is that Honen knows for a fact what Honen will be like in a few years. Most people don't have that privilege.

I don't know what happened to you at other message boards, but a lot of people on the internet really are teenagers and little kids, and when someone comes
in here acting like one and won't make any attempt to listen to reason, then I feel people are justified in responding with, "You're too young to
understand". What I think is even stupider is when they reply to that accusation with, "HA! I'm actually in my 20's!!" (or 30's), as
if now everything they've said is completely right and everyone else is wrong. Sorry, but not a good answer. Then
it means you're retarded. Saying that we think you're just too young yet is giving you the benefit of the doubt, that you have time to mature and learn
to listen to others, and be understanding.

All I know is that if someone on the internet jumps to the conclusion I'm a teenager (or, really, any conclusion about me), I'm not gonna take it as an
opportunity to do some self-reflection. It's just a free ticket for me to ignore whatever they say.

I really wish I had some idea of what brought this on because I feel like I'm arguing against something I can't see.
I'm not talking about immediately jumping to conclusions. I'm talking about people like mobius and "Mr. I Think I'm Turning Japanese, I Really Think So" who were given plenty of opportunity, leeway, and patience, but who continued to argue without making any single attempt to understand anyone else's point of view at all. And again, you can't interpret it too literally. If someone insists on acting like they're stuck in 1995, then they deserve to be treated as such. If they don't take the opportunity to do self-reflection, then it's their problem and no one else's.
