You can either have certain standards and expectations for minimum intelligence level and behavior, or you can be an anything goes free-for-all like GameFAQs. Make your choice, but you can't have it both ways. Aside from all the cute little injokes being passed back and forth between senior members, it's all these people are capable of. A cliche argument deserves no less than a cliche reply. One reason I've diminished my own involvement in internet message boards is because I don't
feel I should be expected to keep making detailed posts explaining the same opinions and reasons I have for them over and over again, especially when it's
something so basic as why I don't consider older games to not be fun anymore. This is something that's only really been an issue in the past 5-6 years
or so. Early internet had more people from all walks of life and opinions, but it seems like almost everyone who shows up here lately immediately comes in with
the same exact attitude. I've been involved in this community, since, I think...1995, (wow, has it really been that long, I am so old =< ), and up
until sometime around 2001 I was the head administrator (yes, I'm the Game Pond's Big Kahuna, boo, hiss. I wasn't a very good admin, so I probably
deserve it). Unfortunately, a battle with cancer forced me to step down around that time and FO took the reigns after (what I understand) was a huge ugly
battle between the GP's Total Nonsense Forum and the General Discussion Forum. Didn't even realize there was animosity between those forums because I
never actually visited GD that much. It was always AIM chat and stuff that didn't interest me. Anyway, in my long run observing things here and there one
thing I have noticed (and again it's become more frequent lately, not something I saw pre-2001) is that it doesn't even really seem to make a
difference if people here make humorous replies or well-thought-out ones: The results are always the exact same. The original posters just get angrier and
angrier no matter which it is.
There's one person (you know who you are) who isn't going to tell me that he's not writing up that letter to me right at now as he's reading this.I suppose I'm that "one person", but I don't need to write you a letter because you already know how I feel. It's not that I think everyone who submits stuff is dumb, I think that's a strawman unless other people are saying that, but that's not true of me. It's just that things like game music are nice (but cameos are boring, I wouldn't read through that shit if you paid me), but what's REALLY special about your site is your writing. That's why people come here because it's YOUR site and they want to see YOUR writing. There's something special about you that no one else has, and anyone can document game cameos or post game music mp3s, but NO ONE can write like you can. THAT'S what people mean when they say they want you to stop taking reader submissions and just work on your own stuff. They aren't saying the readers are dumb it's just that they want to see your unique point of view. If those readers want an outlet for their POV, they can make their own site. |

You forgot the part where they send you mysterious emails demanding you apologize for something, but don't say what it is, or yelling at you to "Take your boad off now or suffer", (yes, "boad"), whatever that means, or tell you that you "gots to grow up" for some unexplained reason. |

He is completely misusing the word "elitism" (not to mention "pretentious", etc.) You would be elitist if you appealed to some elite authority. People who quote, say, IGN in game arguments (such as when Mobius Climber did that) are elitist. People who think that amatures can write reviews better than, have a better understanding of games than, more experience with games than, or be more truthful than the "professionals" are not elitists. That's a democratic opinion. |

Cameos had a number of problems, so I won't go into that one again, but as for the music - again, you're assuming a cause and effect here. I was
only doing music because I'm not really interested in writing reviews right now. I appreciate your sentiment, but eventually you're going to have to
admit that about 75% of the writing on my site is garbage and while I have come a long way, I still have a ways to go. When people complain about the
submissions, no, they don't usually come right out and say everyone is stupid, but it seems like it's implied. And it bothers me when someone who is
playing by the rules and also has demonstrated knowledge of the site is lumped in the same category with the PW's.
This is why you people should stop pressuring me to "Duh, make a webcomic!" because I feel the RAU Gallery is a perfect intelligence test. Some people are going to read and it and say, "I don't get it. Where's the facial expressions?" others are going to read it and WILL get it. One of the people whose submissions I was screening and approving passed that test. *smack!* Pay attention! Unfortunately, a battle with cancer forced me to step down around that time and FO took the reigns after (what I understand) was a huge ugly battle between the GP's Total Nonsense Forum and the General Discussion ForumI'm sorry, Beej. I seem to have completely forgotten about that. I hope you're doing well and I really miss seeing you around. You were a better admin than you think. Even when your writing wasn't up-to-par, it was still always enjoyable. I'm not just blidnly praising everything, I know we've had our arguments in the past. I thought your Life Force review was good, but repeated itself too much because you were desperately trying to fill out every category, and I didn't like your Alundra 2 review because you tried too hard to "wow" me with the game instead of just telling me what it was like. But generally speaking, you're good. The D review is great. The Kid Niki review is one of my favorites. The Arcade Classics review as a great trip down memory lane and it was a delicate balance of paying respects to the games while admitting they aren't as entertaining to you anymore. Some of the other recent reviews were good, too, though I'm having difficulty remember what they were now without looking, maybe Mystical Ninja and some Alex Kidd game? The Oddities and RAU are always entertaining, too. I'm just saying that I think people would like to see more of that from you. It's what made your site popular in the first place. This is why you people should stop pressuring me to "Duh, make a webcomic!"When have I done that? I think it's great the way it is. I'm sorry, Beej. I seem to have completely forgotten about that. It's no use arguing with someone who's mind is stuck in 1995. And you Game Pond GD people will never have power over us again. You can tell us what to do, but that doesn't mean we will. Live with it. It sure does bother you, doesn't it? I guess if you haven't gotten over losing that battle in 7 years, you never will. Sad.

Kai, he tried to appeal to them 7 years ago. If they haven't let it go by now, what makes you think trying again will work?
NOW does everyone see my point? NOW do you understand why it bothers me when good people are punished because of people like this? It's the same thing over and over and over again, every year, and it's always the same people. C'mon, why else would anyone be so bothered by Game Pond jokes as to make three separate posts, flood the board three times, and register somewhere between 10-15 accounts just to complain about it, unless they're the ones being joked about? And they wonder why we continue to make jokes about them. If they wouldn't say anything, no one would even know who we're talking about, but once again, they can't let it go. I think can safely lift the ban on the Game Music section, but I'm still going to keep it on hiatus for awhile since I'm not really in the mood right now to be updating it. I've got Equinox Shrine and RAU Gallery work to do. On, and PS. RHayabusa has won the first Port Saiid Don Lane Award of Stupidity: "James Randi just proves how irrational people are when you subject their beliefs to skepticism through logic and reasoning. I love how he kept his cool the entire time."

And, well, I don't like my Alundra 2 review, either, but I still think it tells you what the game is like sure enough...But I can't even read my older shit without getting knots in my stomach. John Solomon said that true artists are never satisfied with their work. I'm not an artist, but I certainly think I have their personality type. But generally speaking, you're good. More Game Pond Jokes!!!
A man is walking through the desert when he sees Dark Lord, Chuck the Plant, and a Game Ponder. Dark Lord is carrying a fan, Chuck the Plant is carrying a bottle of water, and the Game Ponder is carrying a car door. The man asks Dark Lord why he's carrying a fan. Dark Lord says, "When I get hot, I use it to cool myself off". The man asks Chuck the Plant why he's carrying a bottle of water and Chuck says, "When it gets too hot, I drink some water to cool off". Finally, the man turns to the Game Ponder and asks why he's carrying a car door. The Game Ponder replies, "When it gets too hot, I roll down the window."

Remember that time I called out a user going by the name "The Matrices" because he pretended to be new to the board, but somehow knew that Oxnard
Hamster was RandXian and there was no way to have known that unless he'd been here before and following things pretty closely?
The great thing about this is that I only really noticed one in-joke before Mr. Oshkosh got a pin in his panties about it, and it's not even really a Game Pond thing and by now it's hardly an in-joke. That's why it's funny that he pretends he's not "who we think he is", yet he not only is aware that it's an in-joke (seriously, how would you know unless you've been following everything here?), but he also knows who the "senior members" are. *BUZZ!* Sorry. Try harder next time. Aside from all the cute little injokes being passed back and forth between senior members, it's all these people are capable of.He's also wrong about this, too. I'm also capable of launching myself from a cannon at just a precise enough angle to land right into Jeff Lynne's afternoon lunch bowl, but I've gotta get going because I've only got 7 MORE MINUTES TO MAKE IT HAPPEN!! |
