I've seen a Mario Brothers cake that was an actual wedding cake. They even had to order the bride and groom Mario and Princess figures special.
http://www.studio306.com/weblog/photos/gus07.jpg I'd image-ify this, but I'm not quite sure how. |

I'm concerned that if we got married, we could end up being responsible for each other's monetary issues. I, for example, do not want to end up
responsible for paying his student loans.

I don't know what the point of getting married is unless you want to have kids...
(I'm not directing this at anyone, just saying it in general) |

That's what I was thinking. I don't even know if having kids is really a reason. (CB007's parents never got married)
FO's not religious, either. It seems to me that the only reason (if you can call it that) is for society. Society expects people to get married. One really pointless example was when my mother got married for her last (the third) time. She knew the guy for like 6 months, and I don't even know if they ended up staying married for a full year. I have no idea what gave them the idea that they should have gotten married. |

I agree I think being married is not that important, its not going to make your love any stronger or add any guarantees. now if you lived in a cournty where
divorce wasnt a option that would be different but here divorce is easy.
With that said I will be getting married here soon. She comes from a traditional family and it means alot to her and her family and I love her alot so I am all about it. That is a good point about the loans. My fiance doesnt have any loans to pay off but if she did I would defienitly have to consider that, but then again if I plan on being with her forever she would have to pay it off eventually but then again it would make it hard for me to get loans and what not. Good point omelette. Kids are not a good reason to marry I agree, but if you have kids with someone rather it be through marriage or building a strong realationship you need to step up and work together for the sake of the kids. |

My mom was thinking about getting officially married to him when we found out how sick he was. Things progressed to where there was never really time for that.
It would have been a sweet thing, but then she might have been saddled with responsibility for medical bills and other old debts.

A lot of people (especially women) just want to have the ceremony. They want the dress, the cake, the ring, the attention, the gifts, and everything else.
It's like "everyone else gets a wedding, so I want one, too".

Yeah, but I don't need any of that. How would we pay for it? Seems like a lot of expense for something that would only be for one night. I've heard the
father of the bride is supposed to pay for everything, but my parents are bluecollar and broke.
They want the dress,http://flyingomelettespalace.yuku.com/topic/8284 the cake,I can get a cake anytime I want. I don't see why a wedding cake is any more special. the ring, I doubt I'd be able to wear a ring. I have extremely sensitive skin. I can't wear long-sleeved shirts and I've never worn a watch for very long because I can't stand having anything like that against my skin. I have a feeling that if I tried to wear a ring, I'd instinctively take it off. the attention, the gifts, I don't know enough people for this to be worth it even if I was interested in it, and it's better that I don't because then I'd be obligated to always go to other people's weddings and events and get gifts for them, and I hardly have enough time and money to do the things I want to do in my own life. If Crawl and I ever do get married it will most likely be just us attending and no reception.

I was married for a week, but then my wife escaped from the basement. I should not have gotten involved with someone so crafty.

Wouldn't there be tax benefits? True, it wouldn't eclipse the other financial stuff, but there's at least one positive to it. I would think you
might help each other. And there's nothing saying you couldn't have a small, inexpensive ceremony.
...Just for the record, you two can do whatever the hell you want, but you are probably the second most dedicated couple I know (the first being my parents). I'm not sure, but there may be some benefits to tying the knot. Faults, yes, but benefits as well. Divorce is where problems come in, but that doesn't seem like an issue that'd come up with y'all from what I see. |

We can help each other with finances even without being married. We already do. But I don't want to end up getting stuck with certain bills in the future.

I think the only appropriate wedding for FO and Crawl would be an online wedding.

I wonder if I should get life insurance on myself for FO.
I always thought (due to watching movies) that life insurance didn't pay out for suicide, but I'm reading the terms now, and it still pays out for suicide as long as it's at least two years after sign-up! Pretty sweet deal.

i don't know about yankeeland but most of the time, it seems to be cheaper to die than to live with terminal illness. i think medical insurance would be a
better deal/gamble.
unless omama actually manages to give every american access to fully "socialised" healthcare.
