Have: License, Registration, Proof of Insurance, Title in correct name... this took a minimum of 700 trips to the DMV, including an extra one because of their incompetence.

Put on the new license plates.

Used fix a flat on one of the tires.

Tried starting the car. Totally dead. Jump started it, ran fine, was reassured. Saw that there was basically no gas left in the tank, and didn't want to risk driving to the station and running out, or having the car not restart after putting the gas in.

As it was, the car wouldn't start up a second time.

Since a friend is coming to drive the car to a place to have it fixed (he's a former mechanic and knows what he's doing), I'll see if he can jump start it and bring a thing of gasoline.

Soon there will be driving.

Did you turn it off not long after jumping it? When you jump a car, you should let it run at least 20 min (driving or idlling) as to let the laternator charge the battery. Otherwise it won't start back up.

Yeah, I wanted to, but it probably would have run out of gas right there. I didn't really plan it out very well. Probably shouldn't have bothered jump starting it, just happened to see my neighbor walk by and asked her. But it did give me peace of mind that the car still runs okay.

I recently locked my keys inside my means of conveyance. In the auxillary power position, too. Man, that sucked.

CLOUDBOND007, I take it that this automobile has not run for a considerable time until you came into acquisition of it? If so, make sure to check all of the rubber components (belts, hoses, seals, etc.) to see if they need replacement.

It was my father's car, last used regularly in October. Before today, last started probably in March or April, because I honestly kind of forgot to do so regularly. But yeah, I'll have everything looked over, thanks.

It's actually going to be my mom driving, because her insurance is so much cheaper (still not something we can truly afford right now, but what can you do?)

She needs the car more anyway, since I can easily walk to work.

Awesome news!

My friend (more my dad's friend really) is a saint for helping out like this.

He's going to come over tomorrow evening, after I'm done work. He'll bring over gas, get the car started, figure out a good mechanic to take the car to, and make sure we don't get ripped off.

It's so awful not being able to go anywhere without spending a terrible amount of money for a taxi or getting on a cramped, slow bus.

Drove today! It was really exciting. Being in the car felt familiar, but completely new in a way. It hasn't really had any work done yet, but the former mechanic guy said it wasn't going to be deadly to go a few minutes to the supermarket or whatever.

Most of the time, it's not too bad on our street. Only during certain big events, like July 4th, does it get crazy to drive up here. Some of the other streets are busy all the time, but there's nothing too serious except for the main bridge in and out.

Traffic is nothing close to how it is in the part of Atlantic City I've been to.

Had the car towed to a mechanic today. Almost $500 later, we're basically done. Still needs to be inspected, but the temporary proof of insurance we printed out wasn't good enough for doing that, apparently.

We had a real fun trip today. Went to a shopping area, and had to cross the bridge for the first time to get there. We then stopped at a bunch of other places within the city. Having access to a car after more than 7 months is just too great for words. Might try going to the Cape May Zoo tomorrow.

If all goes well, I should have a car by the end of the month. It's used, but it (should) run well and it's cheap enough for me to afford. I need it because I can't stand relying on my family for trips to my job and other places and back.

Where can I find...a bagel?

The car didn't pass emissions when we took it a couple weeks ago. Mechanic said just to try driving it for a while, might help because it's been sitting so long. Could also be an oxygen sensor or something, but he made that sound like a pretty minor problem. Car is now legal to drive until the end of July, by which time it has to be reinspected.

Car failed inspection again, so they put in a new oxygen sensor. Said it helped, but not quite enough to pass. So he recommended a tune up, and we're leaving the car overnight. Since my dad never did any regular maintenance on it, that seems like a good idea, anyway.

I hate those stupid NJ car inspections. Mine would never pass the exhaust test and that's just a load of crap. If the car had bad emissions, I wouldn't be able to drive it without choking on it.

That's one of many reasons I'm glad I left that state because I would have to get a new car if I still lived there now. There's no way it would pass inspections anymore.

I need to get my car checked out over the weekend. The Check Engine light came on.

I think it was due to driving during flash floods. It came on about a month ago after similar circumstances. I took it to Midas then, and they said they couldn't communicate with the computer. Then I tried to take it to a dealership, but I got really bad directions and couldn't find the place. However, on the way there, I pulled into a parking lot and got out a map, and ... the Check Engine light went off. For no discernable reason.

My thought then was that the problem was with the computer, probably due to getting wet, and the engine was actually okay.

So, I had hoped that it would go off now, too. It hasn't. I'm planning on taking it to Midas again, rather than the dealership, for four reasons:

1) The only easy time I can get it in is on the weekend. The dealerships aren't open on the weekend. I'd have to take off work, or recruit FO to help me (and she'd be late for work).

2) Even if they can't find the problem with the check engine light, I'm due for an oil change, and they can at least do that.

3) Even before the previous incident, I had the check engine light come on AGAIN, and Midas did a repair. If it's the same problem, it should be under warranty, so I shouldn't get charged for it.

4) I'm more optimistic that they'll find the problem. I'll also take it to a different Midas, so they might have different equipment.

Holy crap, it actually passed inspection. The oxygen sensor helped, but the tuneup brought the numbers WAY down. It wasn't even a close thing. There was a day delay because the testing equipment was itself in need of repair.

Haha, I wonder how many people out there have custom plates featuring their online names.

The enging started making a funny noise yesterday, along with an unusual vibration you can feel while riding. I'm so fucking sick of going back to the mechanic, and I don't know where to draw the line with this car.

Made it to 75,000 miles yesterday. When my dad got too sick to drive, it was 74,000-something. So we don't travel very much so far.

I finally figured out how to program the radio stations on the Malibu. Now I've got music again.

After driving the Malibu for a few days, Crawl and I took the Corsica out to a picnic yesterday (since some of our picnic supplies are already in its trunk, and I guess we just didn't feel like transferring them over.) I couldn't believe how loud the Corsica is compared to the Malibu! To be fair, though, I don't think it was always that loud. In fact, I do recall thinking earlier in the year that it was starting to sound louder than usual.

I took the Malibu into the dealer for its first oil change and service check. Because of the snow, for the past few weeks it's been covered in a white-gray powder. I had no idea they were going to wash that crap off and when they told me the car was in the lot, ready to be taken home, I walked outside and walked up and down the aisle twice and thought, "They must've gotten me confused with someone else. My car isn't out here." Then I turned around to go back into the building when I spotted a red Malibu and thought, "Oh wait a minute", and it opened when I pressed the unlock button on my remote. LOL!

Our car sounds a bit off to me sometimes, but the mechanic said it was alright. I don't care too much at this point, the car is pleasant enough to ride in, but it's 21 years old. The next time it needs any major work, we'll probably have to buy something newer.

I checked the odometer, and I think we've driven about 2,100 miles since getting the car running again.

I had to take my Nova in for a few repairs over the weekend. I don't know how much longer that car's gonna be good for the road. You know your car is getting way too old when you never ever see another car of its type on the road anywhere you go. At least DH's Grand Marquis is still in good shape.

The thought's occurred to me that the last time I can remember seeing a Chevy Nova was right before Crawl sold his. I still see a LOT of Corsicas on the road.

I saw the new Chevy models at the dealer when I took my car in last week. I've noticed that it seems Chevy is making almost all of their cars look similar to the Malibu. The Aveo is like a miniature Malibu and the shape of the Impala has changed to look more like a Malibu. I don't like how the new Impalas' taillights no longer look like the burners on a modern-day electric stove.

The mechanic said the recent engine noise was some pipe that had rotted. It was fixed, very inexpensively. I'm not sure if the car was this quiet even when my dad was driving it. Anyway, he said everything is set for the summer, and there are no other issues with the car that he noticed.
