Can Game Carts Be Demagnetized? |
Lead | |
|
I just got a copy of Dragon's Revenge (sequel to Dragon's Fury which is in turn a port of Devil's Crush which is in turn a sequel to Alien Crush,
and I'm doing this just to piss you off), and it won't come on. It's in my Genesis as far in as it will go, and Contra and Dragon's Fury work.
The cartridge looks gem mint, and the connectors are totally golden. I'm starting to wonder if something happened at the post office involving a magnet...

No. There are no magnetic components. They're all semiconductors and typical electrical components (resistors, capacitors).
Maybe something came unsoldered or was knocked off of the circuit board. |

Hm, nothing's rattling in there, unless whatever it is got lodged somewhere else.

What version Genesis are you playing on?

I thought the only Genesis version issue was that the Genesis 3 couldn't run Virtua Racer.
Though FO just reminded me that she had some problem with Forgotten Worlds. |

Version 2.
I was looking at the cart, and it looks like Dragon's Revenge has a little more of the brown card on the bottom than Contra: Hard Corps does. I wonder if, even though the cart is in all the way, the connectors aren't reaching the slot in the motherboard. |

Genesis 2 shouldn't present any hardware issues... it may be going way out of the way for one game, but if it's a phillips head screw cart (or if you
have a security bit), you could try putting the board into another cartridge casing. I have had one instance in which one of the posts inside of the casing of
a used cart I bought was broken, and the mother board had slipped up in the casing a bit, makind it unplayable, and was so remedied. Other than that, I usually
just resort to cleaning the holy hell out of both cart and system until I have success or am thoroughly frustrated. I've had some NES carts that looked
pristine and still didn't work until repeatedly cleaned...
Oh, one other thing it could be. I ran into some Genesis carts when I worked at Funco years ago that used battery back up and had a battery disconnect. The games wouldn't play properly without making a proper connection to at least a dead battery. Just a though. |

Feh, I have an NES security bit, but it's not compatible with the Genesis.
