I was looking at my bike the other day, and somehow everything is operated by cables. I guess the principle for brakes is pretty simple, but the way it changes gears is kind of amazing.

Technology where everything is operated by cables.

like hydraulics, pneumatic stuff? sounds almost at the same level of steam tech. after steampunk, would come something like the 50's. the dominant use of
fossil fuels and flammable gases. can't think of anything cool to do with that, which hasn't been already done to death by mad max and a whole load of
80s sci-fi trashflicks.

No, cables, like in the example I gave in my prior post.

This should have been in the Game Ideas forum. I use the nonsense forum as an all-purpose forum too often.

SecuROMpunk sounds something like 1984, which i consider to be cyberpunk.

Hydraulpunk. Everything would be controlled with water.

That's almost the same as steampunk. Steam is just evaporated water.

No, it's different. It certainly would look different -- steam punk is intended to look 1800's-y. I don't know when the hydraulic lift was
invented, but it would certainly lend itself to a different aesthetic.
You'd also have pistons everywhere instead of boilers. One reason I started this thread was that I can't believe it when I see a new artist start a new series, and they intentionally make it steam punk. I mean, you're deciding right at the beginning that you don't want to be original. It's the same thought I get when I see younger artists trying to draw "anime". And as this thread shows, it's not like there couldn't be lots of creative alternatives. |

Crawl and 1OOO wrote: That reminds me of something. A few years back, there used to be a user here by the name of "Starscream" who was a professional artist (or at
least trying to be professional) who could draw and paint really well. The only problem is that I always thought his art was best when he wasn't drawing
humans. When he drew humans, he drew them in very generic anime style which I didn't think was flattering to his skills.
