In this game, you attempt to ride tornadoes and wrestle them to the ground. You can choose to play as a cowboy, a ninja, a surfer, a robot, and a cow. You can play one of two modes: In the first mode, you try to wrestle the tornado away from houses, other buildings, farms, trailer parks, and other such properties. In the second mode, you ride the tornado and purposefully try to destroy those things for points.

The final level should be a stage where you face-off against Pecos Bill.

This is a great idea for a game. I would easily buy it over Halo 2, Final Fantasy X, Zelda: Twilight Princess, etc.

Sounds too much like a Katamari Damacy knockoff, at least game b does.

Uh, no. It's an inside joke. Strange thing is, though, I don't remember seeing Setzer ever post at Sweetbee's, but I guess some of it carried over to here anyway.

Stalepie, you'd buy this over very popular games such as Halo 2 and Zelda? Geeze, man...
Look, why is it that a lot of people hate some games because those games are popular? Just because a lot of people like them doesn't mean they are overrated. Second, you haven't even played Twilight Princess. It seems that a lot of this community caters toward unheard-of games. I do to and all, but it is not like well-known games suck. The Zelda series owns. The Halo series owns. I have played my fair share of underrated games as well, but just because a game is critically acclaimed by the masses doesn't mean anything. |

I can't believe that you seem to be taking this topic seriously.
But alrighty. Quote: Many Zelda games are excellent, but certainly not all. Wind Waker may be the most overrated game I've played. I even gave it a second chance. Quote: I don't know if I'd call two games a series. But if you can, then I'd say that half of the Halo series is extremely underwhelming in single player. And the other half is just pretty good. |

Quote: Well, after Halo 1, I have no interest in Halo 2, so I can't talk about that game in particular. But in general, "pretty good" isn't necessarily something to sneeze at. A game that's pretty good could be better than 80% of games. But if I'd compare a pretty good game to, say, Goldeneye, the differences would be clearly visible. And on the subject of popular games being great, I'd say there hasn't been a game that was as popular as Goldeneye, and as great as Goldeneye, SINCE Goldeneye. And going back in time, the next game to qualify would be Super Mario Bros. 3. "Perhaps one did not want to be loved so much as to be understood." -Orwell |

Quote: A few more comments on this. -Refering to "this community" as a whole is a misrepresentation. It might sound reasonable that if a small group of people get together to talk about videogames that they might have similar opinions, and maybe that's true for most game boards, but I don't know if that's true for this one. I don't think a single game from the past 5 years could be named that is greaty liked by at least 4 people here that post at least every other day on average. Not to toot my own (or the board's) horn, but this is basically a board of individuals. -Regarding popular games, I do think that now perhaps it is true that a game's popularity could be an indication that it sucks, because people have no idea what a good game is anymore. For the NES, if you look at the most popular games, most of them are at least good, and many truly are great. But back then, everyone knew that a game was foremost supposed to be challenging. Someone might say that Super Mario Bros. 3 isn't as challenging as R-Type (which is true), but the manual still says the designers hope you'll find it more challenging than the first two Mario games; challenge was clearly on their (and everyone's) mind back then. Now, what makes a good game? I have to say I'm really disturbed by all the people considering Katamari Damacy to be one of the greatest games of all time. What high standards could it possibly live up to, or surpass? None; some people just find it fun. Whoopidy doo; there's nothing that would inspire interesting discussion there. Or some people think that it's "creative", but the creativity stops dead with its premise; it doesn't go anywhere. And it is not particularly difficulty to come up with a whimsical premise for a videogame, as the hundreds of goofy games in Wario Ware, or even some game ideas from this community, attest to. Quote: You have higher standards than me, and so I don't think you'd consider Halo 2 to be pretty good. Sometimes I make comments like that without really thinking about them. But basically, a game I can at least bring myself to finish I consider to be of average quality. I suppose that sounds very generous, but there aren't a lot of games I can sit through these days. Something I actually have fun playing, and look forward to playing from day to day (not a chore) is "pretty good". Great games are few and far between but they still pop up from time to time. I think Trauma Center comes closer than anything I've played lately to reaching that level, but I don't think it quite makes it. Quote: If I ever get around to it, I'd like to start keeping a list of games I've played and see how my feelings contrast with the scores of the major pro reviewers. It would be interesting if I enjoyed more games from the 7 to 8 range than the 9 to 10 range. Quote: That's interesting. Did the people who actually made the game say that, though, or was it thrown in because it sounded like a neat thing to put in the US version's manual? Those designers who worked on SMB3 didn't make SMB2US. And SMB3 isn't as challenging as SMB2j... |

Well, of course by SMB2 they meant the American game. I may have heard some rumors about Doki Doki Panic at some point, but I don't believe I knew for a fact about the Japanese Super Mario Bros. 2 until it was mentioned in the Super Mario World Nintendo Player's Guide.

Well, "Mario Staff" to me sounds like more than just the a person whose work was limited to the manual, but who knows?
Yoshi's Island also had a note to the player from the team in the game itself, but, again, it was signed as though by the entire team, not by the individual that chose the exact wording. Perhaps the whole team really did agree with those sentiments. |

Re: Tornado Wrestling | |||||
Quote: Well, even for me, not having to force myself to finish a game counts for something. How much, I don't exactly know*, but something. It might have even been a while since I had to force myself to finish a game. I didn't even have to force myself to finish, say, Lament of Innocence, though that's hardly any kind of "good". *It would depend on other factors, too. I didn't have any trouble sticking with Super Mario Land -- obviously, since I beat it on my first play -- but it's so hollow, it's still a pretty bad game. But it's still better than something I had to force myself to finish that's also vacuous, like Final Fight. Sometimes, having trouble sticking with a game might not have anything to do with the game itself (but, say, being busy at work), and of course I wouldn't penalize a game for that. Mr. T should be a playable character. No, not THAT Mr. T. Mr. T the Letter Person. T is for Tall Teeth. Once when he was in Texas, Mr. T tackled a twistin' tornado with his Tall Teeth.
Caution children! Happy ice cream dancing for you!
