        <![CDATA[ The stray cat that&#39;s been hanging around our apartment complex is in the room with me right now, walking all around my legs, purring up a storm, and
rubbing against me.


Boy, is it skinny...I&#39;m used to seeing cats that are really fat.


I guess what Crawl and I should do is go get a litterbox, some cat litter, and a cat carrier, then figure out a vet to take it to.


I think I&#39;ve got myself a pet...


Still can&#39;t quite tell if it&#39;s male or female, but I wouldn&#39;t be... ]]>

			<description><![CDATA[ Yeah, I love how I can&#39;t win for losing. I avoided Nelson because he was on medicine, and now I have to give the cat I adopted medicine anyway. *sigh*

Hermes really is just a big scaredy-cat, but he was relatively good for the vets. He did nip a few times, but they generally didn&#39;t have much trouble
restraining him and doing what they needed to do with him.

			<description><![CDATA[ We took Herme Mermes to the vet.  She cut off a clump of fur on his chest.  It wasn&#39;t just matted fur; once it was cut off, we could see it had bits of
twigs and stuff in it.  It looked like an owl pellet.  It must have been there for a while, since before he came to the shelter.

The main thing, though, was that she put a dye in his eyes that fluoresced under a black light.  That exposed that he had a little scratch on the cornea of his
left eye.  That must have been from the... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ Well, good, he woke up at 5 am and went on a rampage instead of 4 am, so maybe it isn&#39;t the alarm clock. Unfortunately, he seems to have WAY more energy at
night than he ever does during the day.

I think this cat is insane or something. He rolls over on his back, slides under the bed, and pulls himself along by putting his claws up into the underside of
the bed.

			<description><![CDATA[ Dammit, Pepper! She howled again, so I brought her down from upstairs. She stopped to eat, so I continued onto the bed and let her eat. I started dozing off,
and I heard her howling <span style="font-style: italic;">again!</span> She had gone back upstairs, so I ran up and brought her down and put her in the bed. I
doze off, and I don&#39;t know how much time passed, but suddenly I&#39;m woken <span style="font-style: italic;">a third time</span> by the sound of her
howling.

			<description><![CDATA[ I played with them until about noon when they got so worn out that they wouldn&#39;t play anymore. They&#39;re only just now waking up. Hermes has gone
upstairs and I can hear him running around. I&#39;m going to let him play by himself for a little while and I&#39;ll go up in a few minutes (or if Caramel goes
up there first, so I know he&#39;ll stop playing when he sees her.)

Remember that rainbow streamer thing we bought for Pepper (but almost never use)? I&#39;ve discovered that he likes playing with it. I was playing with both
him and Mel at the same time in the large bedroom with the streamer. Maybe if I keep this up for several hours a day, over the next few days, they&#39;ll get
used to playing in close proximity to each other. Eventually, they&#39;ll get over their fear of each other and play together. And if they... ]]></description>

			<description><![CDATA[ I&#39;ve also noticed something very peculiar. Every night this week when I&#39;ve been woken up by him, I can hear an alarm clock going off in a neighboring
apartment, followed by sounds of water running. Someone must work a late shift job, and I&#39;m wondering now if that&#39;s what&#39;s getting him excited at
night. Maybe his previous owners used an alarm clock that sounded similar, he hears that, and he thinks it&#39;s time to wake up and start playing.

			<description><![CDATA[ I&#39;m gonna go buy him a catnip banana to take to the shelter. This time I&#39;ll ask the volunteers to try to make sure he doesn&#39;t lose it. It&#39;s
bigger and easier to notice than the little catnip pillow I gave him that he lost. Maybe I&#39;ll write his name on it in non-toxic marker. That way if it gets
out of his cage, they&#39;ll know who to return it to.

But Mel came face-to-face with Hermes again this morning and put her ears way back down and low, and hissed three times. She was not this bad after this long
with Pepper, and never did I see her put her ears down. She is much more afraid of him. I&#39;ll stress that it wasn&#39;t his fault when I call the shelter
today, but he just can&#39;t stay here.
